So, you started a thread about a movie you haven't liked since you first heard about it, and you're taking the opportunity to expound upon why you don't like it in ever more detail, despite having not seen it, and indicating you apparently have no intention of seeing it, so you can just go on disliking it for no real reason?

Yeah, except the people participating in those threads tend to be interested in the final product, and you aren't. You just want to complain about a movie you're not even going to see. It's bullshit.

And hey, if you're allowed to gripe about a movie you dislike sight unseen, then I'm allowed to call you out for it.

But, I am commenting on the latest work from two filmmakers i do like. I am also commenting on trends in filmmaking that I am despising more and more (3-D, CGI animation, and mo-cap animation) But more importantly, as i said above, I should want to see this film. I like pulpy, sci-fi-esq films. I like the Phantom, and Sky Captain, and other stuff that, with any good sense, i should ridicule just as much, if not more. I guess I'm making comment that even bad schlock has lost it's magic.

Well, now you're not making any sense. I try and clarify that you are talking about GENRE film regarding your complaints, then you say you're ONLY commenting on this film, to which I suggest talk only about THIS film, and NOW, you're back to saying you're talking about trends in FILMMAKING.

When in reality, you're talking about trends in GENRE filmmaking. Not ALL of filmmaking. Not EVERY movie. But GENRE. Action, superhero, adventure, horror, etc. And STUDIO films at that.

I'm trying to help you clarify and focus what you are talking about. It might make you sound less hyperbolic.

Dude, I'm just reading your words.

As you say, this is a discussion board.... isn't the point? To TELL us what you are talking about?

You say EVERY film, I think it to mean you mean EVERY film. Which isn't true. Now, if you say every GENRE film seems to be aiming to be slick, with CG, then, yeah, I might agree. But when you start using words that have a finite meaning... like "every" then... you should be called out, that either your being hyperbolic OR you ACTUALLY mean EVERY movie... which isn't true.

Again... I'm just saying your comments are about trends in genre films. As most dramas don't use slick CG. As most comedies don't use slick CG.

This pretty much leaves genre films. Which, YES, the trend IS to have a lot of slick CG. Not EVERY film. Just genre.

I don't even understand why you're fighting with me about this. I'm just clarifying (and AGREEING) with what you are suggesting: that genre films have a tendency to use slick CG.

I don't consider them great films nor do I watch them often.. but I think I like the bravado spirit with which they are made, - the filmmakers truly understand that this is pulp stuff and they use that. The Rocketeer is often praised for the same reasons. I was brief in my comment about it so as to make the case that the kind of film that Tintin seems to be trying to be isn't something that I would necessarily dismiss out of hand because of its pulpy origins.

I love Tintin, but he barely changes at all throughout the whole book series, which could definitely be problematic in a full-length movie. I remain highly, highly dubious about this.
