Was something wrong with Alice Krige?

She made her debut Trek role in Star Trek: First Contact as the Borg Queen.

However, in appearances of the character in the VOY episodes, the character was portrayed by someone else and Alice Kringe did not reprise the role until "Endgame". Why? Did something happen to her or something?

That's been bugging me for a while now because once you play a character, you should be the same actor/actress to play that exact same role in every appearance throughout the entire franchise!

Susannah Thompson wasn't it? For "Dark Frontier" and "Unimatrix Zero".

Could only afford the original actress for a big event like a final two-part episode I suppose.

It's a film versus tv actor thing in Hollywood maybe?

Or a pecking order of desirable roles. Motion Picture > TV Movie > ordinary episode

Re: Was something wrong with Alice Kringe?

It doesn't matter who played the Borg Queen as there shouldn't have been one to begin with.

And that is my snide answer to that.

Re: Was something wrong with Alice Kringe?

Thinking uncynically - probably just too soon after First Contact and she had other offers aplenty. Couldn't make the dates, even if she'd wanted to. TPTB stuck with the replacement actress from there on, until asking for the finale just on the off-chance and didn't expect to hear yes at all.

Re: Was something wrong with Alice Kringe?

I recall that she had trouble with the contact lenses in Star Trek: First Contact. It was probably a whole host of factors that led to the character being re-cast, though.

Re: Was something wrong with Alice Kringe?

First off, Sussannah's Queen was exceptional.

The woman herself wasn't a slouch either.

Second, they had to call Alice because Susannah was busy.

She was a supporting character in the Bionic-Man do-over "Once and Again".

It was wrong to use Alice.

Nonsensical too.

They should have just selected a different big bad.

It was something like three years actually.

Susanna Thompson was asked to be the Borg Queen in the finale, but was not available due to her work schedule on the television series "Once and Again" They then went with Alice Kringe.

It never occurred to me that Susanna Thompson and Alice Kringe were supposed to be playing the same Borg Queen character, I've always took them to be two different Queens. I prefer Susanna Thompson's portrayal, I've seen her in quite a few different roles and believe her to be a superior actress. I'm a big NCIS fan too, and part of my admiration of Thompson come from that show.

The long Trill lip lock she did with Jadzia Dax was a definite plus.

I heard someone here say with authority (not that means much) once claim that the producer thought Susannah and Alice where playing the same character.

Re: Was something wrong with Alice Kringe?

This would have been epic...they get Jeri Ryan to play a new Borg Queen that is a clone of Seven Of Nine...it sure would have added a little spice to that hot mess of a finale. :p

Re: Was something wrong with Alice Kringe?

Hated the Bog Queen. Hated the finale. Hate Voyager.

So you have a group of drones all connected together into one giant mind, and you get upset when that mind starts acting like one mind?

Every had a hategasm while accidentally sleeping with someone you loath?

Its the plus side of having self esteem issues.

Hate is so much sexier and more powerful than love.

the word Unicomplex is used, well "primary unicomplex" the once, in the three Borg Queen episodes, but Alice and Susannahs' queens both seemed to live in the same house.

And other than to have a tangible villain, why do we need a queen for that to happen? The whole point of the Borg was that they were essentially like an intelligence connected through the internet, or a sentient internet itself. The concept was far reaching and rather scary.

Adding a queen does nothing but unnecessarily humanize them so the story can have a cliche "mastermind" character. The Borg without a queen were more alien, more machine like, and a greater concept because it was about an intangible ruling mind.

Re: Was something wrong with Alice Kringe?

It's Krige. KRIGE.

I remember her fondly from Ghost Story. I thought she was great as the Queen (even though I thought the whole notion of a Borg Queen was a bit silly--but what the hey), but I also liked Suzanna in the part as well.

Thank you. I hit reply only to post that, and I'm glad someone else caught it.

Now I wonder, genuine mistake, freudian typo or subtle attempt to bash Voyager?

Re: Was something wrong with Alice Kringe?

Since at least one other poster in the thread made the same mistake I'm thinking it's more than a one-off.

Could also be the second poster didn't realize the name was spelled incorrectly, and just continued with the original misspelling.

Re: Was something wrong with Alice Kringe?

No one can spell.

It's just the spell checkers widgeted into our browsers are getting better with most things but imaginary words and foreign names.

Just like how all women under 23 and over 22 are maybe a 4 out of ten at best.

But makeup works miracles.
