B'Elanna Torres

Carl West

Ensign
Red Shirt
If we have Janeway and Seven threads, we need a B'Elanna one too.

She's the one that really caught my eye in VOY. I suppose I just like dark-haired and "ethnic" women. I was also surprised to learn that the actress was a bit older than B'Elanna's supposed age during VOY's run. She was lovely, though... feisty too

She was the best Voyager character in my opinion. She's what keeps me coming back to the show despite it's terrible writing.

I liked her better in the first few seasons than I did towards the end. But for the same reasons listed; fiesty, ethnic and lovely.

I liked the character quite a lot, especially in the beginning. Although she seems to shine more in episodes NOT focused on her then actual B'Elanna episodes.

Sidetracking a bit: the DS9 section has a topic about Jadzia in her swimsuite in "Let He Who Is Without Sin". And I'll be damned if I can remember the actual episode, but I do remember B'Elanna walking in the holosuite in that resort program in a swimsuite. Not bad.

I liked B'Elanna a lot. Sure, she had some episodes that werent particularly interesting (Prototype, Juggernaut, Dreadnought) but she was usually compelling. Outside of the Doc, Seven and Janeway, she probably had the best development during the show's run. I was particularly pleased with her and Tom's arc in season 7.

She's my 3rd fave character behind the Doc and Seven, I'd say.

That was Warlord.

And Neelix's damn shoulder was in the way half the time.

To be fair, TNG also flubbed in that department. They showed us that Worf had a ridged spine, yet he didn't have it later when he was wearing a skin tight outfit in Birthright.

B'Elanna is only half Klingon, so it's very probable she doesn't have all the fully formed ridges. Except for the forehead since it's a trademark.

I love B'Elanna but somehow her scenes never 'jump out' at me and I would often wonder at the end of the episode whether she appeared in it or not, then I remember that she blatantly was. I don't know I just get that vibe about her. But as it is B'Elanna is one of my favourites.

It's because, along with Tuvok, she had an alarming amount of episodes that got hijacked by Ensign Vanilla, Neelix or Seven. I don't know if it was Dawson's or just the writers choice that she would tend to disappear into the background at times.

I worshipped the ground that this goddess walked on. I could never see the attraction to Seven and, when Voyager first came out over here in the UK, I remember that one newspaper referred to B'Elanna as the Voyager pinup.

Need I say more?

I don't think they did a good job of balancing her and Seven together. Whenever the two of them interacted it was Seven that would end up dominating the episode, and just push B'Elanna out of the way.

I also liked the mother-daughter relationship she and Janeway had in the pilot, but they didn't do much with it after that, and then Seven came in and hogged all Janeway's attention.

Yes to the hotness part. Wished she would have ended up with Chakotay rather than Tom as the relationship would've made more sense(given their history) and it would've been a great yin-yang thing with hot tempered B'elanna and more stoic Chakotay.

I agree that Seven always dominated but she did have more knowledge and Seven's personality allowed her to sort of bulldoze her way over the chain of command and Belanna in the process. If she didn't then it wouldn't be in line with her character.

I really enjoyed their adversarial relationship as they were very similar in personality.

The relation would've made more sense, but Chakotay didn't make much sense past Caretaker. I liked that they at least paired her with a relevant character, and remember, they hinted at a Kim/Torres relationship from the beginning which would have made no sense and was ridiculous.
