use them most of the time. except when with my partner as she'll always try to use up her spare change first when paying, and paying a £30 bill with 2p,5p,10 and 20p coins totally pisses people off.
it's why i'll use a separate till if i can.

I use them if I have small amounts of shopping but they're so fussy about putting your shopping on the 3 inch square scales after scanning it and so arsey about removing anything from the area when, say, your bag is full, that I find them really frustrating for large shops. I still haven't worked out how making you put your shopping down on the scales after scanning it helps prevent theft.

Indeed, as I discovered the last time I used one of these irritating things if it tells you it hasn't detected an item you bagged you can just chuck something else in gratis. I considered it my "frustration fee."

OMG i hate those self check outs. Im a very social person and i don't mind chatting for a few minutes with the cashier. In fact, (i don't know if i should brag about this or be particularly proud of it), most of the cashiers know me by name and always give me a *squish* when i end up on their register. It's quite nice and i hate the thought of doing away with that personal touch. Fuck, just kill me if every store goes to self check out. Just what we need in this world, less contact with other human beings.

Once they start offering a 5% discount for checking and bagging your own stuff, then I might consider it. Otherwise, I'm paying for services I'm not getting. They've basically got me doing their work for them while charging me a full service price.

I've used them only two or three times, and once was in a store that didn't offer any other option (not a place I want to go back to). Most recently was with a friend who loves them. The silly lady started scanning my stuff before the customer ahead of us was finished, even though I pointed out that she wasn't done, and we both got yelled at.

I HATE self checkout with a passion. Tried it once, NEVER again. Since when have grocery checkers have gotten so fucking lazy, they have to automate themselves right out of a paycheck,and make me do their work for them??

Self-checkouts are simple enough and usually a bit faster. Really depends on how much I'm getting and where the lines are.

It is frustrating on those occasions when the machine balks and there's no staff around to run their ID and confirm the item, though.

I'm sure you all remember several years ago when stores began installing self checkout lanes so shoppers could scan and bag their own items. It was supposed to be faster and reduced costs for the store as well. Well, now it seems the trend is going the other way. Shoppers apparently don't like them so some stores are beginning to take them out.

So, what do you think of self checkout lanes? Personally, I love them. I don't want to talk to anyone; I just want to get my stuff and go. I hope my local grocery store doesn't take them out.

I think they're a great for a small amount of items and for one's that already have a UPC symbol. When you add fruits and vegetables that need to be weighed or need to be keyed in somehow they are slower IMO than a cashier.

I did experience some slight irritation with one of the big faux pas in checkouts at a staffed station. Someone who had less items than me in their trolley managed to take up the entire bloody conveyor by queuing up their groceries so the guy with a little basket had to wait to unpack his stuff. He started to do the same thing, but realised he was being rude and bunched it all up like a normal person so I could empty my trolley. Fucking people!
