'Old'Spock in Trek 12 ?

I agree that the old cast has had their day. I really did not enjoy Nimoy in XI and sincerely hope he is not in XII, at least not as Spock. I have nothing but fondness and respect for William Shatner and would love to see him play anything but Kirk in the new film; say an aging Klingon warlord?

Yes, wanting a Shatner cameo is pure fannishness, but I hated Generations and want a different resolution for the character, or at least a better farewell !

You want them to attempt to make current day Shatner look younger than he did in "Generations", just so he can tape his 'Happy Birthday' message for Spock?

After seeing Arnie's "cameo" in Terminator Salvation, it seems Shatner need only record a his lines, and let body-doubles and CG wizards to the rest.

But then.... is it still a cameo?

Shatner is a shit stirrer too, he knows how to make a seemingly innocuous statement about Trek that will be chewed over for months, he must be laughing his socks off when this comes up again and again.

Because Trek is about the future my friend, and not the past. Old Spock in JJ trek was a believable plot point around which the story turned, Old Kirk would just be fanwank.

All that says is that Trek is a busted flush, devoid of ideas and creative ooomph. Are there really no new stories out there to be told that don't involve geriatrics?

I don't know why it wouldn't make it better.

Is there someone else who saw ST XI first and liked it and then saw TOS for the first time and now cannot watch ST XI anymore due to TOS' awesomeness?

I've been watching TOS since it started on NBC and had no trouble at all enjoying ST 2009.
