I like the mystery behind God?

There's a reason why this universe came into existence...whether it was a divine power at work or something else...nobody knows. Everything that happens for a reason and everything that exist has a purpose.

I don't really see the evidence supporting the idea that "everything happens for a reason."

The secret ingredients of Coca Cola are more of a mystery to me than the question whether or not god exists.

Now do we call that shallow or enlightened?

My money's on "something else".

The universe is far too competently put together to have been designed by any sentient being. :P

We exist for the same reason that I just farted a few minutes ago.

Random chance combined with chemical reactions and organic input. God or a higher power did not magic my fart into existence.

It's not that hard to make Coca Cola... It's the specific that is not easy to figure out by normal people without proper equipments. It's just sugar syrup with something added and then mixed with water. [chuckle]

Please! I don't think anybody wants to hear about you farting! [chuckle]

You wanna make me stop?

Explain New Jersey.

Actually I couldn't disagree more. We live in an expanding universe full of things that could kill us without a moment's notice. We're the result of billions of years of evolution on a rock where the vast majority of life is already extinct. 99.9% of all life that ever existed is long dead. In roughly 5 Billion years, our Sun will die taking Earth with it. Although we'll probably be long gone by then, either by extinction or hopefully by leaving.

Every piece of evidence points to a cold, uncaring universe. The only truly amazing thing is that we're able to realize it. The universe does contain enough stuff to absolutely terrify you, but it can also be beautiful. But to think that it is beautiful purely for our pleasure is horrifically arrogant. If the universe was made with a purpose, I don't think it would be the way it is.

Since you don't know the purpose, you can't be certain.

What's the purpose of an universe seemingly hostile to life as we know it? Because I'd be happy not to have gamma ray bursts, black holes, and asteroid impacts.
