My dryer stopped working!

^^^ My stepmother had birdfeeders near her clotheslines, but was always shocked and frustrated when the inevitable would happen and birds would poop on the freshly laundered clothes. She's never moved the birdfeeders or clotheslines, though.

She also used to hang the washing out even in freezing weather -- and then would have to try and stuff frozen sheets in the dryer. (And she used to say I was the one who had no common sense...)

I haven't used a dryer since my youngest son was about three years old and that was 26 years ago. I am far too stingy to use the amount of power that they use.

My problem with using a washing line is that the weather here will change in a heart beat. It's common to start putting washing out, then have to backtrack and take everything back off the line cos it started raining!

I haven't used a dryer since my youngest son was about three years old and that was 26 years ago. I am far too stingy to use the amount of power that they use.

My problem with using a washing line is that the weather here will change in a heart beat. It's common to start putting washing out, then have to backtrack and take everything back off the line cos it started raining!

I have two lines under my carport on which I dry clothes that I want dry by the next day. Other washing is put on the main clothesline and if it rains they get a better rinsing.

I occasionally dry smaller items using a clothes hoist inside.

I like using a machine because, well, I want my clothes dried in 30 or 40 minutes not in a couple of hours.

My dryer is finally fixed! For the record, I tried air-drying my clothes the other day. I don't know if my house is extra damp or cold or what, but it took 4 days for my frickin' underwear to dry all the way.

Turns out it was a thermal fuse that blew. The repair guy recommended that I check the outside vent to see if it's clogged...now I just need to find that!

Glad you finally got it fixed. Before I replaced my last washer-dryer, it had gotten into the habit of tripping the internal circuit-breaker every now and then for no real reason. I used to just press the reset button, once I was told where it was, that is. Hope you manage to find the root cause of the fuse blowing, though.

Those outside vents will screw you all of the time, just ask Darth Vader.
