MLP:FiM 2x02 "The Return of Harmony Part 2"

They didn't just homage Star Wars at the end there, they cut it beat-for-beat. Check it out:

Oh yeah. The moment the doors opened to the throne room, I knew. My force sense started tingling. When they cut it exactly like SW at the very end, I said "HA!".

^The scene in part 1 with Celestia pacing back and forwards was literally cut bit for bit the same as Leia in Cloud City from Empire, they admitted themselves some of them are Star Wars fans, just a bit more overt about it this time

Highlight of the episode for me on the other hoof:

Yes, please.

What did Fluttershy scream when Twilight pointed out that Discord would win? I couldn't make it out.

Though Angry (Good) Fluttershy = awesome and win.

Actually...so was Evil Fluttershy.

Great episode; the flashbacks were kind of annoying, but thankfully they only did it twice. And the Rainbow Dash chase seen was full of win.

Really. I had no idea. :p

Speaking of whole scene lifts from famous movies, that sequence is apparently a riff on the chase scene in Jaws. E.g., Rarity and Pinkie Pie are the two barrels that Quint and Brody fire off and so forth.

They weren't really going to be keeping him around, villains in these shows rarely ever do. But he did remain egotistic to the end.

And he's not dead, just stone. So he could always come back.

Just let the CMC get into another fight, he'll be back.

See, I think it's the other way around. I think at that point, DisQord's influence was already starting to work, and the first ponies he influences? Those temperamental fillies the CMCs.

Overall awesome, especially the riffing on Star Wars and the Chaos!Ponyville. Doctor Whooves had a nice little cameo.

That said... the ending was somewhat disappointing with just turning DisQord back to stone. Cause really, the most awesome part of this whole 2-parter by far? DisQord. I mean, they even had the Q teleport this time! Here's hoping he comes back somehow.

And Fluttershy - officially the most awesome Pony of all now in good or evil form. :p

Oh, I doubt he's done for good, or they would have resolved it another way. This way, there's always the potential for him to return.

I was disappointed at how easily Discord allowed himself to be turned to stone. I wasn't expecting an epic battle, but pretty much anything else would have been better. He just sat down and watched as they fired their powered up laser at him. He gave a half-hearted attempt to separate them with telekinesis, but that's it.

Again, though, 22 minutes. Even 5 more minutes of the battle would have been more satisfying for most, but there was a lot of story and only 22 minutes in which to complete it.

The story had portrayed him as a laid-back villain who preferred to taunt the ponies and was confident that they couldn't defeat him. I liked that. He views the ponies and the power of friendship as annoying pests that distract him from the chaos, and he only realised it when it was too late.

Also, what J. said.

Yup :D

Exactly, Discord viewed Ponykind as beneath him and basically a large collection of toys, he couldn't concieve anyone other than another Immortal defeating him.

Yeah, they did a great job with the episode given the limited time they had, but I'm still disappointed. Discord was defeated by the elements before and the ponies had defeated Nighmare Moon proving their worth, so Discord should have known better than to underestimate them. Maybe if he had at least tried to run away from the rainbow of doom or magicked a desperate shield around him to delay the rainbow for a few seconds? Anything other than sitting there and waiting would have been nice.

I think the big question we're left with after all this is; is Screwball going to get as big a following as Derpy?

Again with the pacing, but a great message for the little ones watching (and some of the bigger kids that hang around places like this).

And as for the Star Wars reference, when you do it so well, you can easily overlook the cheesiness of doing something like that.

And I loved Pinkie Pie getting one last drink of chocolate rain.

That crazy pony floating through the picture would make an awesome avatar, similar in style to smiki's (Twilight walking through the 'picture').
