Justified S1 (no S2 spoilers please!)

Oh no, don't you tempt me with spoilers! :rommie:

Turns out Raylan is a Star Wars fan...\\

Unfortunately, that scene was created specially for the promo and is not featured in Season Two, just in case you were getting your hopes up of seeing it. They also did another Dirty Harry themed promo (with a twist):

The Star Wars one is a thing of genius. Raylan's facial expressions in that spot are great; you can tell Olyphant put as much effort into those commercials as he does into the show itself. He's a phenomenal actor.

I hate most cop shows, but will always make exceptions for the exceptional. ;)

After all, some of my favorite shows are just cop shows with the POV flipped around. Breaking Bad, Dexter, Sons of Anarchy. I can't hate everything no matter how hard I try.

The first season has a few "procedural" episodes in that they don't relate to the main plot (ie, the Crowder drama). Even those are very good examples of the type. I have a feeling S2 gets away from any procedural elements and is aimed more at Raylan vs. The Hillbillies.
Well the show focuses on a Deputy US Marshall by their job description they shouldn't be handling any procedural issues in the first place.:vulcan:

I distinctly remember you going on about how much you didn't like this show when it first came out and refusing to watch anymore after like 1 or 2 episodes. That's probably how you missed it, Temis. In particular, the fact the Raylan has no problem blowing someone away if the situation warrants it seemed to irk you.

Glad you got over that and can now enjoy one of the best shows on TV!

The scene at the gas station at the end of the first episode of season two is one of the best laugh I've ever had watching TV in my whole life...

This was actually my biggest complaint about Justified. As the season went on, it seemed to become less and less believable, as there was less and less reason for the main character to be involved in any of it.

I still enjoyed it, but I hope they overcame this problem with season 2.

As an aside--the guy who suggested Justified to me also told me that the show's developer, Graham Yost, had also created Boomtown--a very different and, in my opinion, superior show. I'd never heard of Boomtown, but its one season is really good.

I do think the second season had a more legitimate reason for Raylan's involvement with the main story arc.

Yes. It was also very short. And it isn't available on DVD.

I was just hoping to avoid having to go into all these details. I should have known that was futile. ;)

To me, any day-to-day law enforcement task is a procedure. I dunno if there's a technical definition but I don't really care either because that's too trivial to matter.

The distinction is episodic vs serialized. When a cop show becomes serialized, then it's a fundamentally different sort of cop show than the type that focuses on solving one problem per episode.

A serialized show can't just be about the job the characters are doing, and has to be a lot more about their ongoing relationships and character arcs. And that's when it gets interesting. Shows that focus on people's jobs kind of bore me, unless the job is Starfleet. :rommie:
