Once again, Netflix streaming video saves the day!

Watched Slap Shot tonight in my hotel room. what a great film. Classic, in the same league as Caddyshack and North Dallas Forty.

And just as quotable....

"These guys are a fucking disgrace!"

And the national anthem scene is just perfect.

Here's to Old Time Hockey.

:ouch:

My favorite sports movie of all, and I say that as a baseball fan. I first saw it on broadcast TV when I was a kid, it didn't seem to get much respect but in my family it was must-see-TV whenever it was on. Of course the un-cut version is much better, but as a 10-ish kid I used to get a kick out of hearing words like "lez" on TV. I won't repeat the line here, but I always have to re-watch Paul Newman telling the team owner she better get re-married soon for the sake of her son, that line just cracks me up. His tight brown leather leisure suit is also a sight to behold.

Strother Martin, how many great movies was he in? I miss actors like him. I recently watched the SNL he hosted (on Netflix), which I remembered from my youth mostly for two raucous, punky numbers by the Specials.

Yes the clothes really stood out as I was watching last night.

Oh, what a glorious age that was!

Steve Hanson: Dave's a killer!
Johnny Upton: Dave's a mess.
Reggie Dunlop: But Dave's out. Who's gonna take his place?
Ned Braden: Is the answer Jesus?

Hanrahan's wife (Melinda Dillon): "He said if I was a dyke, that made him a queer!"

My wife knows a dude named "Hanrahan" that's married to a lady named "Susanne".

She is tempted every time she sees him to say "Hanrahan! Hey Hanrahan! Susanne sucks pussy!"

After seeing this thread earlier, I decided to head to Netflix to give it a watch. I'm a huge fan of movies like Caddyshack, and even though I had never heard of this movie until today, if people were saying it was even better than that, it had to be something special.

I... I really didn't care for it. At all. And I love movies from different eras a great deal. I don't think I laughed once, or even cracked a smile. I mean, I recognized when things were supposed to be funny, but I didn't actually find them so. The only thing I found kind of humorous was probably unintentional, and that was early on when the guys were complaining about the outfits they had to wear as part of the fashion show, and then only because of the clothes they wore throughout the movie.

Maybe my opinion would be different if I had seen it back when it had come out.

"You make me sick when you speak!"

J/K

I'm sorry you didn't like it. Perhaps there is an element of nostalgia at work here.
