To separate from the 'changes' thread, lets have a different one for the reviews. Post your comments, both positive and negative, grade the set, extras etc.

They should be here on Friday. Me and Robin (my daughter) plan on watching them this weekend. Hopefully they'll give the surround sound a workout!

I'll just repeat my comments from the other 'changes' thread:

Got the Complete Saga today. So far, after checking out some of the discs, I'm pretty impressed. Sound and audio is great for all six movies. I enjoyed finally seeing the Tosche Station scene, after hearing about it for so many years. I like the CGI Yoda in TPM far better than that awful puppet in the theatrical release.

My only disappointment is that the deleted scenes from the prequels on the PT DVDs are not present on this release. Guess I'll be holding on to those SW DVDs I bought a few years ago, then.

This is the third time I've bought these films I got the special edition VHS tapes for Christmas in 1997. Still have them! I got the DVDs of all six films in 2006. I just got the Blu ray today, lol.

Weak that I am, I caved in and bought the OT set.

Obi-Wan's Krayt Dragon call in ANH sounds quite camp but what do I know about the sexual preferences of those beasts - that might be what the Tusken Raiders are afraid of. I remain unhappy with the Han stepping on Jabba's tail scene from ANH, which should have remained on the cutting room floor as it spoils the flow of the film, but I can easily step through that scene with the remote. Vader's "NO! Noooooo!" in ROTJ isn't as bad as I originally feared although the change is completely unnecessary. The blinking Ewok eyes complete with very subtle pupil effects is another unnecessary change, and, of course, nothing was done to the physics of the battle to make their victory more believable. None of this ruins the OT films for me, which do now look and sound much better than the DVD versions.

As for the prequels - they do look like nice eye candy from what I saw playing in HMV - but the occasional excellent scenes remain mired by the poor script, characterisation, and plotting of the remaining dross.

The Ewok blinking and eyeballs are downright bizarre, and quite creepy for me. I'm not particularly enamoured by the greatly enlarged door to Jabba's palace either. The biggest bump in PQ is definitely The Phantom Menace - which is a vast improvement on the mess that is the horribly edge enhanced DVD.

Things like changing the size of the door is just bizarre. What does that change? Why make that kind of change at all?

People who buy this crap should be ashamed of themselves. You're just enabling him.

Im happy with the DVDs of the prequels, but will be buying the blurays of the originals.

This is hilarious...

George can do whatever he likes with his movies...and this is the first time they've been on bluray. I dont own the original trilogy on DVD so my bluray purchase is my first dip since the VHS copy in the 90s.

Sure he can. Never said he couldn't. It's just that people are such suckers...

The rate of technological progression dictates when these new discs come out...if someone makes changes to the original movie (director's additions, footage etc) its just additional incentive to buy. Don't see how that makes anyone suckers...not all of us buy every edition that's out there, so it pays to be selective.

Umm, not really. I watch my movies on an extremely large screen, and most DVD's look like shit on it - despite having one the finest optic disc players on the market. As I've mentioned, TPM is just horrible.

I'll take a few changes that I might not like/agree with to gain Blu-ray's vastly superior picture and sound resolution any day.

I guess he felt that Jabba's palace didn't come across huge and imposing enough before.

What I want to know is, how come after all this time and all these changes, he STILL hasn't thought to put the freakin radar dish on the Falcon in ANH?? :wtf:

That first shot of it in the hangar bay with the missing dish has been bugging me for YEARS, and it seems like it would be such an easy fix to make.

Why fix something like that, or fix the matte lines and such around the old effects when you can add in "Nooos!" and make doors bigger?

Got it...funny thing is...there are still defects...the discolored matte from the death star control scene, et al. Why didn't they fix those before adding rats and izards to the Mos Eisley scenes?

Because George Lucas is insane and he knows he can add in whatever bullshit he wants and not really "fix" anything and people will buy it. No offense, but you sort-of prove his theory.

I mean why fix mattes, actual mistakes like the dish on the MF and stuff like that when there's CGI bullshit to be added? Doors to make bigger for inexplicable reasons scenes that define a character to re-define and senseless CGI alien Jazzy-Blues acts to insert?

Matte lines and inconsistently colored light-sabers? Phooey!

Watching TPM with my daughter tonight. It's the first SW film she's seen besides snippets on TV here and there. She still doesn't know Vader = Anakin. We've watched the Clone Wars cartoon.

Picture looks good, and supposedly from reviews TPM looks the poorest of them all in this set.

TF.N has the way you can access one of the easter eggs, which is the Boba Fett cartoon from the Star Wars Holiday Special.

UPDATE: Looks like we have corrected instructions from Jared...

OT Bonus Disk - Episode IV - Pursued by the Imperial Fleet - The Collection - Boba Fett Prototype Costume - First Look

Thanks Jared!
