Canadian sci-fi specialty channel Space has linked with Omni Film Productions and the UK's Impossible Pictures on a new series that builds upon the latter's drama Primeval.

Space said today it has ordered 13 hours of Primeval: New World, a spin-off of the British original set against the greenery and mountains of British Columbia.

"This is a truly unique opportunity, building a parallel yet independent series that will appeal to existing fans and new audiences," said Corrie Coe, senior VP of independent production at Space's parent Bell Media.

Space, Omni and Impossible have been in talks on the Canada/UK coproduction for some two and a half years. Season four of the ITV original played well on Space last winter, reaching about half a million viewers.

Primeval: New World will air in the UK on ITV. Other broadcasters have yet to be confirmed.

Like the original, New World follows a team of scientists who contend with time travel and creatures from both the distant past and present. The Canadian version will be "darker and scarier" than that of the UK, while interweaving plotlines and characters from both.

this show has more lives than a Time Lord, ITV axes it, BBCWW commissions another series, it ends it run on Watch/ITV, and Space saves it.

Actually there's still a Series of 6 or 7 episodes that hasn't aired yet.

Series 4 and 5 were commissioned together for a total of 13 episodes, only Series 4 (6 or 7 episodes) has aired.

yes I am aware of the Watch series, and that it hasnt aired on ITV yet, but it has aired, and ive got the DVD.

Oh, my bad, I thought it was scheduled for October :alienblush:

Nevermind, carry on, nothing to see here :alienblush::alienblush:

Here in the US, we're still waiting

Good for you, Sindatur wasn't and that's who I quoted and thus who I was replying to as he was under the impression no one had aired it yet.

I don't think S5 was on BBCA either. I have S4 on my DVR and never saw any mention of S5.
No, it wasn't, that's the ignorance I was speaking from. :alienblush:

Recently, I recall a thread announcing an airdate in the UK for S5, in Oct, I believe. We commented on how BBCA didn't even have an airdate lined up yet, and American stations announce far further ahead then UK do (Months in advance sometimes, therefore, the assumption by a few, me included, is we won't see S5 on BBCA until at least after the end of the year.). I didn't realize the upcoming announced date wasn't the initial UK airing.

so, it's not Primeval series 6, it's a new spin off series 1?

hope we get to see it...
im not exactly sure where you live "ConDem Nation" suggests UK, so im going to run with that, it says in the article I posted it will air on ITV.

Its also S1 of a spin-off, but obviously if it does feature characters from the UK show (and if the UK show is not bought back) it could be marketed by ITV as S6.

Of course S5 (aired on Watch) has a cliffhanger which may needs resolving.

Looking at the ratings for S4 on ITV, I would be surprised if the UK show comes back, ITV wont see the need to spend the money, when it already has Primeval:New World, which im sure they will be getting cheaper than any deal with Watch can make a new series of the UK show.

^It's apparently more of a reimagining than a spin off. They want "A younger, sexier cast" So I guess they're going for primary school kids or something.

:guffaw:

On the plus side given the aging population in the UK especially soon enough they'll pretty much only be making shows for the older viewer...

Series 25 of New Tricks anyone?

So given I didn't watch it on Watch, is Primeval s5 coming to ITV in October?

Just want to point out, I don't find primary school children sexy. I just meant to be younger than Connor, who was supposed to be a uni student in the first 2 series.

Well BBC One's average audience age is already something like 50 so I guess they reckon the audience are Dirty Old (wo)Men.

Nope, ITV haven't got any plans on when they'll show series 5 just yet. By the time they do you'll be able to get the dvds for a fiver already.

Bugger!

And I knew what you meant, Bob. I can't help but remember the younger sexier SG1 team they spoofed that time!

Wamdue's original post said that was ust a spin off which still supports some characters from the original series wandering through or setting up shop.

I like Primeval.

After the final episode there's full disclosure, no more secrets everyone short of Donna Nobel knows about dinosaurs and time portals now which means an international effort all of a sudden, not that several countries were probably engaging in their on programs to deal with the phenomonem.

I am such a whore.

The article I saw yesterday said differently...

The 13, one-hour episodes - said to have a budget of $2.5 (£1.6m) per episode - will follow a group of North American scientists and animal experts who investigate the arrival of prehistoric and futuristic creatures in the modern day world. The show will feature a "younger, sexier" cast, while storylines will also explore characters' relationships.

Production will begin in Vancouver in the winter, with the show expected to air in a 9pm slot during autumn next year. "This will be a bigger, better, badder re-imagining of the show, rather than a continuation," said Impossible managing director Jonathan Drake.
