Dead Island

Anyone playing this game? I am and I love it so far. It reminds me of Fallout 3 except the player can drive vehicles in it.

Overall it is a great game.

I own it, but I haven't played it yet. I've been busy with work, and to make matters worse, Red Orchestra 2 has just released as well. So it may take me a while to get to it.

Eeeew. It reminds you of Bethesda's bastardisation using the Fallout name? What a horrible comparison.

I've been playing Dead Island a fair bit. I'm surprised no-one posted a thread until now. The game is quite enjoyable. Needs some serious patching though. You can never see your friends in the game lobby, everything has to be by "invite" and the multiplayer craps out a lot.

The hardest part I find with the game is the random respawns when you go down. Sometimes you respawn near where you were, sometimes you respawn on the opposite side of the map and twice now, I've respawned in an area of the map I haven't even been to yet. But my favourite is when it respawns you in the middle of a horde of zombies that kill you again before you even get a chance to try and move.

Fix the multiplayer, fix the respawning so there's some logic/consistency to it and I'll be pretty happy.

I know what you mean about that respawning! I was on the mission to get some flares and died and respawned back at the light house. I was like "What the heck?"

Hey, I gotta question. I like kicking the zombies to death and each time I kick one a little white number keeps appearing until they finally die and the yellow XP number appears. What do the little white numbers mean?

got the game a few days ago. it's a pretty good game.. got killed about 15 times and only got about 5% into the game.

The white numbers are the damage you're doing to the zombie. And different types of damage show in different colours. Orange is fire damage, green is poison, etc.

I have another minor gripe that needs to be addressed in a patch: The inconsistency in jumping down from roofs. In several places you have to access a building by dropping down through a hole in a roof. Fine. No problem. You're a tough zombie ass kicking machine. You jump down no problem. So why the heck do I die if I jump down from a roof onto the street? I had multiple deaths in the city jumping down from lesser heights. I call BS on that one!

Finished the game shortly after my above post actually. Was a bit miffed that there's a trophy for discovering all 72 locations in the game and I only had 69. Not that trophies are a big deal but they're there so I like getting them and I walked or drove to every part of the map I bloody could. Obviously I missed some side quests somewhere that opened up those three areas as I had some green (unexplored) areas on the maps that I simply couldn't find a way into. Grr!

I was level 37 at the end of my game, and that included some multiplayer sessions with friends where I replayed things I'd already done. Don't know how anyone could make level 50 in one play through.

It's a fun game. The coop is fun and the open world concept works well. It's essentially a more story-based version of Left 4 Dead with character and weapon customization. It's quite buggy at times though ...

RTFM...

The manual that comes with the game doesnt say anything about it.

Actually, that's about all the manuals tell you, the controller functions.

I'm getting old. I remember the days of big manuals bound with those spiral rings... Baldur's Gate II, I'm looking at you...

I rented it, and I'm not terribly impressed. It's fun, yeah, but it's janky and buggy as hell. A weekend, and I've had my fill.

Considering how long the game was in development, there's really no excuse for the bugs. Although, as I said up thread, my biggest gripes are the multiplayer issues and the random location respawns when you die.

Did some online gaming with a couple friends yesterday. We were fighting a few zombies on the beach, I went down and respawned over 500 metres away.

Well, there are several hidden trophies so... who knows. :)

Discovered an exploit yesterday that gives you pretty much unlimited money. Yeah, it's cheap but I've beaten the game already and considering all the cheap deaths and bugs, I don't mind using it just to keep my weapons repaired and too buy enough detergent and scrap metal to make ammo... seriously, I can carry around 12 fricking swords or machetes or baseball bats but not a couple extra boxes of ammo?

Not sure what it would be on an X-box or PC but on PS3...

Hold L1 (like you're aiming to throw a weapon) and hold Triangle then tap R1. Your current equipped weapon will be thrown with a duplicate dropping at your feet. Pick them up, rinse, repeat and sell.
