Bill Nye, Executive Director of the Planetary Society, delivered more than 20,000 signed petitions supporting space exploration to Congress and the White House. The signatures came from Planetary Society members and supporters around the world.

To think he was just a Boeing engineer till a friend of his who hosted a local Seattle comedy sketch show asked him to do "something science-y" for him.

Nye attempted to correct the host of Almost Live! after the host pronounced "gigawatt" as "jigowatt."
The character name came from the host's comment "Who do you think you are—Bill Nye the Science Guy?" and Nye was thereafter known as such on the program.

I'm a big fan of Dr. Nye but 20k signatures for a national petition is pretty pathetic. I don't think his efforts are even worth doing since rational arguments never trump petty politics.

That kind of attitude gets nothing done. Whether it ends up succeeding or not, the effort must be made.

In the real world you're judged by your results, not your efforts. Hard works means nothing. It's all about being lucky enough to exploit opportunities.

Then give up. Let other people who have the drive complete their goals.

That's pretty darn cool. My Dad's business has a formal connection with Bill Nye. My Dad makes telescopes and sells them as kits, and many of these go to schools. One year, they wanted my Dad to come to their school to build the kits with them, but he couldn't make it. Instead, he got hold of Bill Nye who agreed to do it, which was very cool of him. So, the kids got to build my Dad's kits with Bill Nye! I'm sure they still brag about it to this day.

And he has gotten many notable people to show interest in this. His effort is a potential seeding moment that gets other people higher up in the scientific community to get off their ass and start doing something too. He is like a guy running at an enemy yelling charge. If nobody does charge, he will get ripped to pieces, but if the rest of em follow then there might be chance.

While this is great, in the current economical situation, we seriously have bigger problems than not going to space.

Then give up.

I think it's clear that the country has. 20,000 signatures. How come Bill Nye doesn't have millions. Exactly

Let other people who have the drive complete their goals.

I know a ton of people who have tried to complete their goals and have failed. We call them unemployed. I realize that my life does not completely suck because of shear dumb luck.

The people who succeed in life are lucky not hard working.

If your posts get any more optimistic, a funeral's going to break out. By the way, I hate it when people answer their own questions. You know what I mean? You sure do. Hard work can lead to successful results. You agree? I'm glad, and I feel validated in your agreement. You want to get a sandwich? Sounds great. You buying? Thanks!

I've been waiting 30 years for mankind to reach the stars. We have not made ANY progress towards that goal in that time. No space plane, no SSTO vehicle, no space elevator, no Moon colony, no Mars mission. I've come to the conclusion that the fate of all intelligent life is to die on their hunk of rock due to stupidity and that's why there is no sign of life in our galaxy and after the last 10 years, I would rather see humanity die in a nuclear or an environmental holocaust then see it spread it's filth across the universe.

I don't blame young people for seeing space as a dead end. Why shouldn't they when they grew up with spectacular robot missions and utterly boring manned missions. Honestly most people believe the only way off this planet is through aliens and I don't have an argument against that.

By the way, I hate it when people answer their own questions.

Well I hate it when people ask question whose answers are obvious.

You should feel sorry for poor Galileo, who could see up at the moon and the stars, and would never touch them in his lifetime. It took 350 years for us to reach the moon from his vantage point, but it was in those last 50 years where we accomplished amazing feats. It's simply not going to happen overnight. It takes time and patience.

I didn't ask a question. You answered your own question. See what I'm saying here? If you have a problem with people who ask questions with obvious answers, you should note that you answered your own question:

You didn't even use a question mark, either. Or a period.
So if you have a problem with answering grammatically incorrect questions with obvious answers, you should start with your own post, because I didn't ask one.
