Woman arrested for flying while Arab

I wonder if many people, especially Muslims and Indians etc, are too afriad to fly because something like this might happen to them?

All I can say is that it's wrong what happened to the three of them, and the other 47 people around the country that day. Treated like criminals, their rights abrogated and ignored, in the name of "their protection". Bullshit. It's bullshit, and it needs to stop.

Being Arab and getting on a plane on 9/11 is a bad idea. Who knew?

^ It shouldn't be a bad idea. Racial profiling is appalling. And no amount of apologies make up for the violation this woman, and 49 other people, experienced.

Sadly, this is the world we live in now. My gf went to NYC last month for her cousin's wedding. She went and bought a new carry-on bag because the only suitable sized bag she had was a gift from a friend who is teaching at a college in Qatar. She was afraid, and justifiably so it seems, that with a "foreign" name (she's Albanian) and a bag that said "Qatar" on it, that she'd run into problems.

Absolutely, utterly sickening that people can be violated, essentially "raped" by the system and there is nothing that they can do about it.

The propaganda machine doing its job efficiently on the great unwashed. It's unfortunate they have Americans still scared shitless like this. 50 other incidents of Arab-looking people pulled off planes that same day... :sigh:

This is more than horrible. Those poor people.

Something similar happened to my sister a few years back. She was pulled out of the plane and questioned by Homeland Security for a couple hours, before they let her go without an explanation, let alone an apology. It was completely arbitrary, made no sense and left her scared brainless and humiliated.

Presumptuous sons of bitches.

Unbelievable. Why the hell didn't Obama repeal Patriot when he had a majority in Congress? I was wondering that months after the election and I have to say this is my number one issue with his Presidency: the failure to correct that grave injustice to the Constitution.

As another poster already said, with acts like this taking place it seems to me the terrorists have already won.

I hope something like this happens to you, then maybe you won't be so flippant about it.

This story is appalling.

I did hear about other instances this 9/11 of people "spending too long in the bathroom." Who knew having indigestion was one of the signs of a terrorist? Jesus Christ. This fucking country.

This is going to be a serious problem. I don't think it's unrealistic or far fetched to say that in a couple of years someone could attempt to do to Muslims what Hitler did to Jews, and that he'd have full support of the public. And this might even happen in the US. The next step is internment during another crisis (something similar to the movie "The Siege", or, well, during WWII). And with your current political climate, the financial crisis, and the stupidity that is growing amongst your citizens, this is really getting dangerous.

You're right, it's not unrealistic or far-fetched. It's both. It's also every bit as ignorant and insulting as what Dream said (minus his bigotry), just in the opposite direction.

This kind of behavior is appalling and makes me sick. No way stuff like this should be legal or tolerated. All of this woman's, and the other people's, rights were stripped away. Unless every single person on this, and the other, planes were treated in this exact same way then this incident is disgusting.

Disgusting.

And, really, from my POV she should have lawyered up the moment they taked her off the plane, demanded one, and been uncooperative with them until she got a lawyer.

I don't care what that bullshit USA PATRIOT Act says, she is an American Citizen and is deserving of that and this treatment was disgusting and beyond what she be tolerated.

So some up-tight asshole on a plane gets disturbed on the "three brown people" on the plane who get up to use the bathroom so an entire plane-load of people are inconvenienced and at least three of them detained for several hours? Did the plane really need a fleet of squad cars and such an aggressive show of force for this?

Bulshit.

This was complete bullshit and it should. Not. Be. Tolerated.

Obama himself should hear of this stories and the others like it that happened throughout the country and he should be outraged.

From the NEWS ARTICLE on the incident.

""Due to the anniversary of Sept. 11, all precautions were taken, and any slight inconsistency was taken seriously," Berchtold said. "The public would rather us err on the side of caution than not."

No. I'd rather us err on the side of liberty and rights. I'd rather us not do this to three people based simply on rumors. I'd rather us take a more measured precaution of finding out some facts and reality before treating people like terrorists because someone was a little tense at the "three brown people" on the plane spending a "long time" in the lav.

God, this is such horse shit.

I would seriously love to see the affidavit of probable cause on this one. "Passengers went to the bathroom too many times." Uh huh.
