Be fair now. She was pretty shite in a lot of series 5.Karen's amazing performance in this episode has convinced me to suggest that anyone who has ever claimed that Karen can't act should seek professional psychiatric help ASAP.

^Yeah I do agree with that a little. We are still in Season 6, not season 6.5 or 6.9, Season 6. Never liked the whole thing of the ".5" when a season is broken up.

It doesn't particularly make sense. It wasn't broken up significantly. Maybe that's just from an American perspective, where breaks are the norm, not the exception, though.
That's known as "sassy" these days, and is supposedly a desirable quality in a Doctor Who companion.Karen can act just fine. I just wish they'd make her character a bit less annoyingly self-centered.

Meh. Give me an old-school companion any day then. Its probably why I prefer Rory.
Hell, I even liked old Amy better.
Is it? My impression is that they don't give a shit.Losing Melody was bad enough
You're right, they seem to have forgotten her and I don't buy the "We grew up with her, so technically everything's fine" explanation. Knowing a friend doesn't compare to raising your own child and it ignores that she still spend the first years of her live being brainwashed to assassinate the Doctor. They should realize that they can't get baby Melody back, but it should be an issue. Is it? My impression is that they don't give a shit.
Sarah Jane, Leela, Tegan...and that's just off the top of my head!

I like sassy just fine. But the mark of a good heroic companion is someone who'll put themselves in harms way to help other people. Off the top of my head I can't think of any time when Amy risked herself for anyone but herself, Rory, or the Doctor. That was my original point, that she seemed just a bit too self-centered.
Why? Why should the Doctor have simply accepted it at that point? He's the experienced time traveler, and he knew that wasn't the way it was supposed to be.I understand why the Doctor lied to old Amy, but I still think it was wrong. He did not have the right to erase old Amy from time just so that young Amy wouldn't have to be alone and in danger for almost 40 years. The moment Rory met old Amy she technically became the "real" Amy, the 40 years of waiting had already happened, it sucks for young Amy, but the Doctor really should have accepted it.
But it seems in the teaser for the first episode of series 6 that the Doctor was living out those 200 years in the bits we saw.
