BBC Original British Drama

And another commission has been announced... Ripper Street I got excited when I saw the first word and thought Joss Whedon's BBC Project had finally come to pass, but alas, no. It's a Jack The Ripper thing...

Tiger Aspect Productions and co-producer Lookout Point have been commissioned by Danny Cohen, Controller BBC One and Ben Stephenson, Controller Drama Commissioning, to make 8-part drama series, Ripper Street for BBC One.
Created by writer Richard Warlow (Mistresses, Waking The Dead), Ripper Street is an extraordinary new drama set in the East End of London in 1889, during the aftermath of the "Ripper" murders. The action centres around the notorious H Division – the police precinct from hell – which is charged with keeping order in the chaotic streets of Whitechapel.
Ripper Street explores the lives of characters trying to recover from the Ripper's legacy, from crimes that have not only irretrievably altered their lives, but the very fabric of their city. At the drama's heart our detectives try to bring a little light into the dark world they inhabit.
Danny Cohen, Controller, BBC One, says: "Ripper Street is a gripping new drama for BBC One. Set against the backdrop of a fevered historical London, I believe it has the quality and intensity to be a hit with BBC One viewers."

I hope you're enjoying it: it's one of my all-time favourite books.

<wishful thinking>If Tinker, Tailor's a success do you think they'll make Honourable Schoolboy and Smiley's People to complete the trilogy?</wishful>

Think that's just the bits from the link I posted earlier edited in to one Sherlock specific video.

Starkers, I'm looking forward to Tinker, Tailor, too. Not long now.

I've been reading the book. I've heard this is a good thing to do before hand as the film might be confusing in places otherwise!

Has anyone seen trailers for a new supernatural show. I thought the name was Shade or Shades but I can't find anything on the Beeb website. Of course it could have been another channel. Anyone know owt?

I'm not sure about the Fades. The trailers make it look a bit flashy and young for my liking...and yeah I realise that for every Spooks Code 9 BBC3 have given us a Being Human*, but still...

*Which I've still never seen!

I gave up on Torchwood. It was too dire to persevere with. It's such a shame after Children of the Earth (which I purchased on your recommendation).

So.. I've been watching the new series of Law and Order UK and have enjoyed it quite a bit... But I wonder... Does anyone else find the lack of Dr. Who references a bit strange between Peter and Freema kind of disappointing?

Is this an American thing, where we get a tickle from beloved actors on one show, making veiled references to their previous shows (ala Nathan Fillion on Castle and all the Firefly related comments)?

Or have their been some and I'm just not watching closely enough?

^Law & Order UK isn't a BBC show. I'd guess it would be down to the writers though, if the writers wanted to make references I'm sure they could have, but maybe they're not geeky enough to have wanted to make them.
