WIP - BBS-3777 LONG-RANGE STARLINER

Scott1768

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Having pretty much wrapped up the TOS Endeavour mesh, I decided to try my hand at something a little different. Keep in mind, it's a work in progress...

After sputtering to an ignoble death late in the 20th century, one of the most famous Terran transport companies was resurrected in the 23rd century as Pan American Galactic Spacelines. Shown here in Pan Am livery is a BBS-3777 luxury liner, designed and built as a cooperative venture between Bell-Boeing Aerospace of Earth and Shi'Kahr Engineering of Vulcan. This particular vessel is named "Clipper Maid of the Stars" in memory of Pan Am flight 103, "Clipper Maid of the Seas," which was lost in a terrorist attack over Lockerbie, Scotland, Earth in the late 20th century.

The 3777 is a rather large ship, designed for relatively low-warp, extended cruises. The version shown here measures nearly 450 meters in length, nearly twice that of an average Federation cruiser-class starship.

Great! Fantastic artwork!

If she is a Vulcan design, shouldn't she be capable of at least Warp 5? The Vulcan ships of ENT were in the Warp 6.5 to 7 range, IIRC.

Oh, I imagine she could push it to Wf5 rather easily, if called upon to do so. By the late 23rd century, I think that would be considered "relatively low warp."

While cruising through the Orion Nebula, the Pan Am 3777 "Clipper Maid of the Stars" deploys her ship's launch to provide her passengers with a better view.

If you have a sharp eye, you may recognize the "ship's launch" that I'm using as a temporary placeholder pending my own design... :-)

Other than detail, This is basically finished. I still have to put in windows, a cockpit, and my own design for a ship's launch. One thing I would like y'all's input on - I'm really liking the look this ship has with no outer windows on the hull. Do you think it looks better like it is, or does it need windows/viewports scatter about?

Perhaps one-way windows? Carve in the geometry for porthole-style windows (and maybe an observation deck) but without making them see-through.

I see echoes of the Olympic Carrier in this one.

You have no idea how difficult it was for me not to be influenced by that design any more than this!

I think this ship ends up being an homage to every cool spaceliner design of the last 50 years...and then some.

I don't know if it's still there, but there used to be one parked outside of the Constellation Hotel by Peason Internation in Toronto. Oddest thing to see when driving down the street. A big beautiful plane parked in front of a hotel.

Concerning your question about windows...I do like the clean look your ship currently has. My only thought is, in the name of "realism", it seems to me that a commercial starliner would have windows for it's passengers to be able to gaze into the heavens. Not necessarily saturating the hull with them, but maybe at least a couple observation decks with over-sized windows. Just a thought. Excellent work though. :-)

^

You should do one UPS 'Brown'. Gods know, logistics are important even after the advent of transporter/replicator tech. ;)

Cheers,
