Excelsior TV series

But there seems to be little point in creating a Star Trek: Excelsior television series in 2011 after the reboot button has been pressed and Takei and the surviving TOS cast members being too old to reprise their roles and the sets, props, models, and costumes having been sold to collectors at auction or destroyed.
You, um, didn't actually read the thread, did you?

lol doesn't seem like it.

Decent idea. Hopefully the design wouldn't be butchered like the Enterprise.

I probably like the idea of Quinto/Spock being Captain and Cho/Sulu could be the first officer. The rest stay with Kirk. I would like a plan to replace certain people as they advance (Cho/Sulu, for example) and/or just retire to private life to make it a bit more realistic rather than having people never getting bumps in grade but never showing any personal ambition like both TOS movies and TNG showed.

I, for one, would seriously love to see this idea come to fruition. I'm not certain of Cho's ability to carry the series, either, but my only real experience with him is that unfortunate film from '09. (What was the name again?)

But we should never forget that one of the most important stars of the show would be the Excelsior herself. I would much prefer her to follow the classic lines of the original ship than to be redesigned by the aesthetically handicapped folks who gave us the reboot Enterprise. And considerably more forethought should go into her interior vs exterior design than in the film.

I think the idea of a John Cho Star Trek series would be great. Heck, I wanted an Excelsior show with George Takei. But Takei could doubtlessly guest star or have a recurring role on a Cho-led Trek.

I think this idea would be the best way to bring Trek back to TV, considering the Abrams movies. It could be a nice spin off and hopefully bring over more fans of the movies to the TV show.

Should Vaughn Armstrong and Jeffery Combs be included in the main cast

That's a blanket "yes." Regardless of the series premise or what roles they're playing. :)

Ditto for Gary Graham as well as Marc Alaimo, Casey Biggs, Andrew Robinson and René Auberjonois, if they ever want to return to Star Trek.

I probably like the idea of Quinto/Spock being Captain and Cho/Sulu could be the first officer.

With both of them onboard, the series would definitely get a boost and both have been willing to do TV. I wonder if they could also rope Karl Urban into TV? He seems to be a huge McCoy fan and that might be an inducement to forgo movies for a while.

Pine, Saldana, Pegg and Yelchin are probably not going to forgo film careers. so we'll have to be happy with a partial cast. While I do feel that the main charm of the TOS cast in either incarnation is the interaction between the characters, I think getting three of them into the same series would also work as long as two of the three come from the Big Three.

Yes, I actually did read the thread. The idea of a television program set aboard U.S.S. Excelsior just does no appeal to me the way you have laid it out. The idea was attractive in the 1990s when it seemed that George Takei was keen to do it.

It's just that your post makes it seem a lot like you thought I was laying out an Excelsior series starring Takei. It reads like you completely missed the fact that my idea was for an Abramsverse Excelsior series. Seriously, re-read it and you'll see why I thought so.

I like it a lot, but am fearful of what an "Abramsized" Excelsior might look like.
