Thundercats (ep1*7) *SPOILERS*

Tonight's Episode: Answers!...to the questions whose answers were not difficult to infer.

The Good:
-Mon*Star: Cute cameo or awesome foreshadowing to Silverhawk Lion-O?
-Ok, so it safe to infer Panthro found the Thundertank. Now how did he learn to fix and drive it.
-Though I'll be accepting the good animation as a give in this series at this point, it's still nice to see cartoons with actual movement.
-Glorious violence is always appreciated.

The Bad
-If you want to build menace, try not have the hero steamroll all over the source of ultimate evil. Even when 'Leo' (possessed by an amateur, no less) had only one testicle to Mumm-Ra's three, it was still a one-sided fight.

The Ugly:
-Oh Lord! Please say they're not going to try to give Monkians, Jackal-men and Vulture-men dignity!

They are. They have already said their versions of Monkian, Jackalman and Vultureman are the respective generals or leaders for their races instead of Slythe's underlings.

Much better episode, answers a few questions and introduces some familiar faces. Nothing in the episode that didn't make sense or seem too fanciful.

RAMA

Loved the Mon*Star cameo!

Still want to know what is going on with the tails?

Some have them, some don't and Panthro had one when he was younger.

This series is getting better and better --- it really is.

This episode gave me a few things to muse over though. Something that I noticed is each gem Mumra has seems to have a coloration signifigant to the each of the four adult protagonists.

The first one, the Red gem that eventually became the eye of thundara is obviously in the Sword of Omens. Then there is a Blue, Green and Orange one.

Considering Tyra has been wearing that green "military" getup since episode 3, I find myself wondering if the colors don't have a significance and that each of the four adults cats will be getting a "special weapon" with a gem for them and pull off some sort of transformation where they all "give their power" to Lion-O as needed (a la Ronin Warriors or Sailormoon).

This almost seems like one of those things that bleed out "THIS IS WHAT'S HAPPENING" and if they are going for a transformation type series, this could either be climbing too something super cool or be getting ready to spin around the drain. I hope its the former because so far I am nothing but impressed with the series.

On a completely other note: Does anyone else get the sense they are setting up the Space Scenario to introduce the Silver Hawks into the Thundercats continuity? Season 3 of the original series and Silver Hawks always seemed to flirt one another without ever actually overlapping and it has been suggested a lot in the past they are continuity with one another. I may be looking for hooks where they don't exist but it seems like that that line is there.

Okay, I really liked the backstory showing how the different animal races ended up stranded on "Third Earth". It even partly explains how they kinda left technology behind. But didn't the cats (under Mumm-Ra's command, apparently) have other ships out there besides the pyramid? And presumably their planet of origin is still out there too, right? If that's true, then this would infer that the protagonists are a "lost tribe" of the cats.

....or maybe I'm overthinking a cartoon whose target audience is my son's age.

^Yeah...

I'd say that I hope to see that backstory expanded upon, but I'm going to hold my breath with this series.

So... I say this just last week and then BOOM! (like clockwork) the very next episode is the "Flashback to Fill-In Backstory" episode... And it wasn't terrible...

Of course, now I'm wondering who the original inhabitants of "Third Earth" were and what happened to their technological wonder cities (and them as well).

Would love to see a remade Silverhawks. Was in my 20's but still watched it after work,
really enjoyed that show.

I also think it is supposed to be Mako, from the series Tigersharks, that appears just above Mon*Star. All 3 series were by Rankin/Bass.

Here's the clip...

There's no chance we'll see Tigersharks show up in this series in any way, shape or form --- Nick has the rights to that series currently (and probably has zero intent to do anything with it).

They acquired the rights when they brought out the majority stakes in Midrange.

WB outright owns the rights to both Thundercats and Silverhawks though.

I've been talking to a lot of people about this over the last few days and general consensus in my group friends seems to be that Silverhawks probably won't make a come back unless its able to be spun into Thundercats and then spun off.

The series itself was very problematic. People remember the series almost entirely for its opening theme.
