I never found clowns creepy. I don't recall any friends of mine thinking they were either. Quite often we had clowns at birthday parties and I can't remember any of my circle of friends freaking out.

In fact, I never even heard of the "clowns are creepy" meme until well into my teens. *shrug* And that's despite having seen IT before then; I never figured the clown character was scary because he was a clown, but because he represented something unnatural.

I like this one:

Actually based on the Chicago Bozo, just more jaded.
:vulcan:

Slightly off point but... I see your clowns and I raise you to Ventriloquist dolls ~ the most evil thing known to Man. Reference film 'Magic' 1978. That movie haunts me still...
You want to see Dead Of Night. :D

My sister and I were so terrified of the ads for that film that the channel had to be changed - we couldn't even bear to hear the dummy!
Heh. I was a teenager when that came out. I loved that commercial. :D

This is why I like clowns. They tell us something about ourselves, about the need to connect to others while simultaneously alienating others. And that sometimes you're willing to do things you shouldn't to get a reaction:

Powerful stuff.

I'd be interested in hearing what others think about that song.

Some clowns I enjoy, some annoy me and to most of the rest I am simply indifferent. I've not read It (lost interest in reading King before that one came along) and have seen only a handful of short clips from the movie; never really got much of a sense of clowns being creepy, though.

Clowns that do opera are very different than the "main stream" clowns seen at circuses or used in children's shows.
Indeed? When did you become an expert on clowns, particularly operatic ones?
