Warhammer 40k : Space Marine gameplay

Considering the amount of melee in the game, a third person shooter is much more appropriate then a first person one. And it just wouldn't be 40k without the melee!

if it's a first person shooter they may do it like space hulk board game. which is awesome. I love mecha so I may take the tau as my alien army.

So I played the demo and loved it. Getting the game for Christmas. I kind of want to start the fiction between now and then, just to dip a toe in the universe. Any recommendations? Is Horus Heresy the best place to start?

yes, if you want to start in begining of the warhammer universe. all so has any one here read any of the novels?

The Heresy novels will give a good background of 40,000 universe. There clunkers like Battle for the Abyss that you can avoid and not lose anything storyline wise.

Every novel series is more or less independent of each other so it all depends on what part of the 40,000 universe interests you i.e. chaos, eldar or the imperium.

My favourite right now is the Night Lords trilogy written by Aaron Dembski-Bowden.

i just want to know why they had to make it a 3PS and not an FPS... i only play FPS games...

They did make a FPS back in the early 2000s called Fire Warrior, where you surprisingly played as a Tau Fire Warrior.

Played the demo just now and a bit torn.

It looks pretty and has a huge amount of gore and all that but the mechanics of the game are slim. It's just button smashing in close combat where you cleave through Orcs with ease (even lare concentrations) and occasionally execute one to replenish health while saving up Fury for the bigger bosses.

The Jump Pack was kinda fun but also got very repetitive.. launch and then drop down on the enemy.. rinse and repeat.

I don't know if these simple mechanics can sustain a full game.. i'll probably wait until it's in the bargain box. I want more meat from my games other than shiny graphics.

I dunno. If I'm surrounded by a dozen blood-thirsty, axe wielding orks, I think the last thing I'd want is complex combat controls.

And it did look like the game has a fairly extensive collection of special combo moves. But, we'll see.

i know, i want a Space Marine FPS...

As said before, melee doesn't work well in a FPS, or at least with a nice level of satisfaction (if you want an idea, play Fallout 3 or similar kind of games and see how that melee works out.). Not heard of the Space Hulk game as an FPS though.

As for Fire Warrior, the game was very so-so, average.

But that's the problem.. all you do is press the attack button repeatedly until all Orks are dead (maybe roll out of the centre to avoid attacks from the back). I'm not asking for Tekken or something else with a huge list of Special Moves, Countermoves and whatnot but this one is too simple.

Maybe the game improves with later levels and tougher opponents but i have my doubts.

I went in expecting a FPS/TPS game and this is as much of a beat 'em up as it is a TPS, if not moreso. As far as gameplay goes, this has more in common with Dynasty Warriors than Gears of War.

I don't understand the difference of FPS/TPS? new to computer gaming.

cool thank you. when does this game come out? and, what type of computer would you need to play it on?
