ok yes fair enough we die, and sometimes if we are lucky we get to look back, but before that life does not have nice clean and neat chapters. In life there is no such thing as Karma, comin full circle, life is what you make it, not how an intellgent creator decides he wants to write your lives.

I fear my point may have gotten lost, the main point is that unlike Ponys, Time Lords of whatever the hell Yoda is, there is nothing to guide us to our happy ending, we can be nice, kind, sweet and everything that My Little Pony is apparntly about, but a drunk driver can come along and put us in hospital or kill us. That drunk driver may not go to jail, the cosmos does not value our lives, like a creator does the lives of his or her TV characters.

I do agree that TV can inform our values, but that is no excuse for acting in an utterly navie manner, simply because you happen to watch My Little Pony or Thomas the Tank Engine before you left for work that morning. What happens in the show works in part becasue its in the show, and in a similar real life sitution its unlikely to work. the Doctor can also afford to take the risk he can regenerate.

Ahh, c'mon now, utterly naive? I know people that live their lives in a state of hope and optimism, who go through periods of trials and trouble but really believe in love, and friendship, and happiness, and the goodness of all people. Maybe that's naive, but if everybody was a little more "naive" the world would be a better place.

Most of this is true but what does any of what you said have to do with enjoying the ponyverse and its apparent utopia? Is it naive to aspire to it and spread love to our own world? And if it is why attack the show for its love and harmony? It is a show as you say. I still don't get what you want.

because I struggle to see how such an over whelmingly postivite outlook, can have the same results in real life, as it does in a TV show, which is normally written to have some kind of happy ending, or even just an endnig. Life has no endings, sure we change jobs, we leave school, we get married, get divorced, but there are no cliff hangers, no spin-offs, life goes on regardless of anyones attempt to tie a neat story telling ribbon on it.

You're struggling to see why fiction is different than real life? Fiction is art. It is written with structure; a beginning, a middle, an end, rising action, falling action, rhythm; it uses allegory, irony, metaphor, pathos, bathos and iconic aspects of the Human condition; along with countless other techniques. It's been that way for thousands of years, because this is an essential element of Human psychology. Do you also struggle to see why paintings have composition, why music has a beat or why poems rhyme? Art is art. It is stylized; it's not reality, it is the perception of reality. And it has a message, whether intentional or not. Storytelling, meaning and all, is the foundation on which civilization is built-- it's how history and philosophy and the character of Humanity survives and evolves. This postmodernist deconstructionist attitude that reality is grim and pointless runs entirely contrary to Human nature; it is mere nihilism, and that is the ultimate in naivete.
