Ringship

It's not really meant to be seen normally. I had turned off the visibility of the supernova because the glare was washing out the other lights. Normally the supernova covers most of it.

LOL it reminded me of the threaded brass tube insert of a lamp I once owned...

Here's a crazy thought: What if the front (payload) and back (pusher) were connected only with ultrathin, carbon nanotube cable stays that are not visible at this scale ( ;);) )

Thank you, everyone, for your helpful comments. It would have turned out much inferior without your insightful advice.

That thin core might make som sense if you wanted the story to become dark...
Mirror matter only interacts weakly with nornal matter, so a degenerate mirror matter star might be invisible. You would no be crushed in that you shouldn't hit any surface. If in free fall, there might be some spegettification, but perhaps the free fall would allow an object to pass thru and then be held weightless at the core, but with no ability to leave. An invisible gravity envelope prison.

perfect to imprison a mad-Q with a shaft to deliver food...

Really turned out cool! :bolian:

I got this urge to render a couple of shots of my own now! But I have to finish some animation for Doug.

Thanks, guys. :)

Maybe we'll start a grassroots movement here for the ringship and rekindle someone's interest in doing Gene's "Starship" series. :)

I am easily jaded when it comes to truly new ideas for Trek artwork (especially as it relates to starships, etc), but this is awe-inspiring.

I hope someone snatches you up to work on something official, that pays!!
