A collective work of universal scope is currently taking shape: all people on earth are invited to speak out in their own language. Every individual has up to four pages to freely document his or her thoughts, values, life, hopes, fears, expectations…
In 2009/2010 [now 2014 at this stage], all of this material will be transferred on board the satellite KEO and launched. KEO should return to Earth after circling our planet for several thousands of years, providing the world of tomorrow with an authentic image of what human beings are like today.
As soon as the satellite is in orbit, all the messages, anonymized, will be subjected to linguistic and sociological analysis, mapping their content and meanings, and establishing comparative images of our various cultures. The results should nourish the public debate and help us answer such questions as: Who are we? And: what can we do together right now to make the world a better place?
"Hi... this is your geeky great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great greatgrandfather here..."

I wonder how many messages will state we all came from a far away star system which contained twelve habitable worlds which were destroyed by a race known as the Cylons...

Would be quite funny if we got heaps of people to mention it as our descendents would probably believe it!

People should put as much genealogy information in as possible, so future people, assuming records (and us) survived that long, could help track long lost relatives.

^ After 50,000 years, wouldn't that be pretty much meaningless? I mean, if we use the typical 1 generation = 25 years, and considering the number of ancestors you have rises exponentially, ancestory from 50,000 years ago wouldn't mean a hell of a lot, because you'd be related to half the planet.

Pity we can't add DNA data; some people have used it to trace back 50,000 years from us to locate migration patterns in humans.

Of course, there isn't much migration left to do these days...

"...the Federation is gone, the Borg are everywhere... please, if you're getting this message you must... no.... NOOOOO!...."

What for? Facebook will still be around 50,000 years from now, and people will still be posting their family pictures and what they ate for dinner. :borg:
