For the Teen Choice Awards? Why not release it later in the year and aim for "Best Picture" buzz?

Once primary filming is finished, the movie goes into post-production, which includes recording of extra voice parts and ADR, second-unit filming and reshoots, special effects (this alone can take months and require a huge amount of effort,) editing all the bits together, and then--once everything else is in something close to finished shape--the composer has to write and record the music. If they aren't shooting until Jan 2012 and it takes about 3 months to shoot, why wait over a year to actually release the movie? Holiday 2012 would make more sense. Should give them time to put in all the lens flare everyone loves, drop a trailer at Comic Con, and promote the hell out of it.

They didn't make a killing on it, but it made money.Because despite being critically lynched all over the place, the movie still made Paramount money. Why are they making a new GI Joe?
that's actually surprising
i somewhat enjoyed gi joe 1 tbh though i had no desire to ever see it again and i have no idea where that 180m budget went either. thought it flopped, guess it did good foreign bo?
Why do you say they need to do better for this film? Trek has always had a much stronger domestic box office than international, the split averaging in the neighborhood of 65%/35%. If it was up to you, how would you go about making that foreign box office share increase?speaking of foreign BO, trek really needs to do better for this film and i'm wondering if they're figuring on how to do that?

Why not release it later in the year and aim for "Best Picture" buzz? The 09 movie was nominated. Perhaps Star Trek can take the highbrow approach and aim to make quality blockbusters. There are certainly enough "tent pole" movies coming out each and every summer.
