Is This The New [SPOILER] [SPOILER]?

StCoop

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
River Song, that is.

The first few minutes of "Let's Kill Hitler" were shown at the American Television Critics Association press tour tonight (full details below) in which we're introduced to a new character, a childhood friend of Amy and Rory's called "Mels" who holds the Doctor up at gunpoint in an attempt to hijack the TARDIS.

So is this the way they're going to get out of having Amy and Rory have to leave the series to raise their daughter; by revealing that since they already grew up with her the Doctor can't rescue her as that would change their personal histories? (Incidently the character returns in Episode 13 as a child along with Amelia and young Rory.)

Oh, and if she is Melody/River it also answers another long mooted question...

Not really. The Sound of Drums already established the existence of black Time Lords. If the character is named Mel, I wonder how long before someone speculates whether this is a reimagining of Bonnie Langford's character?

I doubt she's River. Assuming the regenerating kid is River (and we don't know that she is), it would make things too confusing and take spotlight off Alex Kingston.

That said, we did once have The Five Doctors ....

I think you're way overreaching with your speculation!! Don't get me wrong, it's an interesting idea buuuut really no evidence to support. Or contradict it either.

I do sort of assume that the Doctor's ability to rescue the baby will be hampered by events that have already occured in their timeline but I'm thinking that running into the girl in the space suit has already accomplished that.

I'm guessing the rescue occurs during the scene at the lake as we already saw it, we just don't know what's going on fully.
