The Dresden Files: Ghost Story (Book 13) has arrived!

The eagerly awaited new entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling Dresden Files series.

Anyone familiar with the series knows that's it's the next best thing to heroine and just as addictive.

Chicago's resident Wizard/P.I. Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden returns!

Doing my best not to spoil anyone, but has anyone else read it? I was floored. It's only just gone on sale today and I'm already jonesin' for my next fix.

Jim Butcher's a pusher-man... and the magnificent bastard knows it too.

Seriously, if you're looking for a good read, look no further.

But do yourself a favor and start at the beginning.

I got my copy in the mail today. :D

I'm almost done with A Dance with Dragons, then I'll be jumping into this right away. Can't wait!

Everyone had to start somewhere... Might as well be the beginning. :D

I'm jealous in that you've got 13 books (plus the short stories) already available to you. When I started, I only had 8 (Proven Guilty had just come out)

Now I'm stuck on the cycle of agony waiting for each new installment.

The Dresden Files just hit its overall halfway point, so there's still plenty of story left to wait for with a projected number of around 23-26 books total.

I read Dresden (and well, everything else) in paperback format, which means it is going to be a long wait before I pick up a copy of Ghost Story. I actually only read Changes recently, and haven't picked up Side Jobs yet because that hasn't been released in paperback yet, either.

I started reading Dresden less than two years ago, and was immediately sucked into the world. Jim Butcher has done a marvelous job with the series. I have been so impressed that I actually am now going to read Butcher's Codex Alera series (book 1 down, 5 to go).

I got it Saturday afternoon, finished it by Sunday afternoon. I've started a second read where I'm going to take it more slowly. Jim has taken a bat to the characters. I felt really bad for some of them, a very dark entry in the series, but I loved it.

^Quite. Figured you'd get it early Bob. (Heard it was released early on your side of the pond for some reason.)

Also, Codex Alera was very enjoyable to me, and I've never been someone who liked high fantasy. It's odd, but even when you think you can pigeon hole Butcher's Books into a particular genre, he can surprise you...

Looks to have been, even though the official release date isn't while tomorrow. There's a lot to be curious about in Ghost Story, lots subtle and not so subtle hints at what lies ahead. I hear the next book has been renamed from Winter Knight to Cold Days. I wish there was a release date on that, I want it now.

I really like Codex Alera myself, found it a bit hard to shift gears to get with the difference in tone and style but by the time I got half way through Furies of Calderon I was already hooked on the series. Not really a fan of high fantasy but didn't stop me from enjoying it.

I love high fantasy, and I thought Butcher did a great job with Codex Alera. I really hope his next series turns out to be that sci-fi one he'd talked about a couple of years back. I'd love to see his take on sci-fi after doing urban fantasy (Dresden) and high fantasy (Alera).

^Not quite the same thing, but Butcher's written a Spider-Man novel too, The Darkest Hours. It has a pretty Dresden-esque feel to it -- although it might be more accurate to say that Harry Dresden is pretty Spidey-esque, the same kind of wisecracking hard-luck hero.

I think he said he'd be sticking to Dresden for the next couple of years, because 2 books in 2 series a year was tough on his family. But it'll be interesting to see what comes next anyway.

He's also mentioned an "Epic Fantasy" series in the past, if Dresden and Alera don't count as epic I wonder what does.

Still waitin' for Side Jobs to come out in paperback...no way I'm payin' $25 for a collection of previously published short stories.

^

Still too much for previously published stories. I'll wait for the six dollar paperback or a cheap copy at Half Price Books.

Can understand that. I already owned most of them when I bought Side Jobs, but still considered it worth it to have them all collected in one place, in order, so I didn't have to hunt through various anthologies.

Isn't out for the Kindle until tomorrow so I'll be downloading it and reading it tomorrow. Got all 12 main novels and Side Jobs anthology read so I'm ready for the new one. Feels weird though, roughly halfway through the series leading up to 21-24 apocolypse trilogy ending.

The Big Apocalyptical Trilogy might not be 21-24. Changes was Supposed to be 10, so the series might be a few books longer than originally planned.

Jim did reveal that Changes was meant to be book 10 of 20, the 18-19-20 being the trilogy, so its been put back by at least two or three books, the official Dresden Wiki lists them tentatively as 21) "Hell's Bells" 22) "Stars and Stones" and 23) "Empty Night".

It's also possible that Butcher has taken ideas for future books and merged them, which would shorten the series. We won't know until he actually gets to that point.
