Phase II Enterprise Model

I'd rethink not using the refit secondary hull.

Here's my poor bedraggled Eldridge...

Compare it with the Phase II E upthread.

Is there a top view? :)

Here's a candid...

Not bad...

Wouldn't surprise me if there was something similar (or exact) on http://www.shipschematics.net/startrek/federation.php

Unfortunately, you have to click on every link to find what you want.

Ya- I like the site, but it's a little messy for me sometimes.

--------

I started thinking more about this concept Enterprise and TMP's refit, and how everything can work together to maybe explain such a drastic change from TOS to TMP...

So firstly, I disregard TAS just because I'm not a huge fan of it, though if I were to keep it, it would fall within the first 3 years of TOS's timeline.

I first thought that after the last episode of the original series, the Enterprise still had 2 plus years of its 5 year mission to complete- after all, 3 years of TV does not really mean 3 years of in-universe time.

Then I thought that proceeding the initial 3 years, that the Enterprise went in for a refit- the first being a change to the bridge module were two aft turbo lifts were added, as well as the addition of the Phase II new warp nacelles (that may or may not have been in developmental use for a few years) and brand newly constructed secondary hull.

This hull was pre-made of course and was an intentional upgrade specifically designed to the Constitution Class, and included a change to the power distribution system to the new nacelles.

So the internal arrangement of the secondary hull was a significant departure from the primary hull, though the systems were obviously designed to be integrated into the existing primary hull.

So between the first 3 years and the start of the refit to the first movie, we have an Enterprise that would look like the Phase II concept.

Following the end of the 5 year mission, the primary hull was completely gutted and rebuilt into TMP's Enterprise that we know.

During this refit period, it also included un upgrade to the main deflector array of the relatively new secondary hull, as well as the replacement of the Warp Nacelles.

So. By the time that the Enterprise is deemed to be old in TSFS, in a sense, it is. Though most of the systems are new, the primary hull's space-frame, though modified, is essentially the same skeleton as when it first left Earth orbit for the very first time.

We can call the modifications over these 5+ years an evolution of technology and mission requirements.

My big caveat about this is that Kirk was unfamiliar with the secondary hull layout in TMP, so there would possibly have to be some kind of change to the secondary hull arrangement that would also have taken place during the last refit leading to TMP... That's the only way to explain the confusion...

Interesting that you put the photorp launchers under the dish like that.

I would get rid of the shadow effect for the font though.

I originally tried fitting the launcher at the bottom of the neck, but it would've taken way too much to make it fit, so I figured the yard crew would've just augmented the launchers that were already there.

The "shadow effect" of the registry, on the other hand, is actual feature of the model that doesn't quite show up in the pictures. Specifically, the old registry is still visible under the newer application. Like I said, it was a half-assed refit to get the ship just within current specs, as well as better establish the Eldridge's cover as a rattletrap ship that's not a threat to anything larger than a workbee.

Looks very good in Vance's ship tool kit style :) :techman:

and you forgot to add its newer Phaser Banks on the top of the saucer :)

I like the placement of the pho-torp launchers. Something for another Phase II-ish design. Have one torp launcher below and just between two small megaphaser 'nozzles' sticking out from the lower saucer. That keeps the classic TOS weapon fire locations, and allows for the saucer to be lowered without blocking neck mounted tubes--for an aggressive look.
