I'm watching these final episodes right now and I'm really being weirded out. 3 quarters into season four and all the stories are wrapped up into a neat and happily ever after bow. I thought it was all over. The end. Then there's another episode (Yes, they made Titanic II. American Pie 8 came out last week.) where they're talking about how everything started to go wrong, how in reality there is no happily ever after if you live long enough... Her gothy roommate the witch, casts a spell causing Felicity to travel back in time 2 seasons to just before the dreaded and infamous haircut whereupon, taking advantage of all the foreknowledge at hr fingertips, she completely derails future history by going after Boy "A" instead of Boy "B". They're throwing around terms like "spacetime contiuum" and "butterfly effect". So awesome. Fricking Abrams was whetting his teeth for Lost and Star Trek even at this early date.
Yep, I remember that! That was nicely weird. And don't forget the black-and-white "Twilight Zone" homage earlier in the series.
I remember that as well. Definitely not something you expected to see on the show, but really cool nonetheless.
Time travel, IMO, isn't really exclusively a 'Sci Fi' concept, and fits perfectly well within the parameters of the genre into which Felicity falls (primetime soap); it's certainly no more outlandish or 'out there' than, say, the stuff that has happened on shows like Dallas or Desperate Housewives. It works especially well with a show like Felicity, IMO, because it dovetails very nicely into the show's basic premise and the 'what if?' factor associated therewith. I never actually saw the episodes dealing with this arc myself, but remember hearing about them, and definitely want to get my hands on the series and watch it all the way through since I remember being a huge fan of it while it was on the air (moreso for Amy Jo Johnson's character than the main leads Kerri Russell, Scott Speedman, and Scott Foley, though).
Probably my favorite time travel in a series (outside Star trek) was Witchblade. At the beginning of season two, they went back to the beginning of season one and redid season one from an entirely new direction, interesting idea.
Well I was thinking of it more as "Fantasy" than "science fiction" Digfic since witchcraft was involved, but then Amanda Foreman's character was casting spells that seemed to work through out the series. Turned out to be a fever dream. Sick. Although if that doesn't count, then niether does Life on Mars. The final episode of Going Out (british sitcom) had a Life on Mars parody running the duration. The episode was called "Life on Mars bar" (A Mars Bar is a popular sort of chocolate bar obviously.) laughed my ass off. But in the final 5 (it's odd how difficult that is to say without thinking of Cylons. Felicity's Art teacher was a Cylon.) it was just so intesting watching fractured histories intersect with events too large for Feleicity's temporal momentum to as yet budge against.
Ah Felicity. Not too many shows are focused around the main lead who is a stalker. lol BTW there's also another "Lost" first on Felicity. When the geeky guy who had a crush on Felicity in California came all the way to NY and basically acted all "Felicity-like" and obsessed on her they had him get hit by a bus. He was talking and then just stepped onto the street not looking and *BAM/SPLAT* NY bus. So he got "Michaeled" before it happened to Michael. Although Michael lived while this guy died while in the hospital after regaining consciousness I think.
I had no idea things got THAT weird in the final season. I loved the show early on, but by the third season I was starting to lose interest. Probably the fact she kept bouncing back and forth between the two guys and couldn't make up her freakin mind. lol
Nah, he survived. Though he seemed to get worse whensoever he thought that he had a chance with Felicity. The girl is bad juju.
I'm not sure, but I think the situation was that the producers thought they doing only a partial season, but then the network surprised them by asking for one last batch of episodes so they had to come up with something after they had already wrapped things up. "Hey, what about a time-travel plot?" "Sure. Why the hell not? We're not getting picked up next season anyway. Let's get crazy!"
Yea, that's about how it was for me too. She cut her hair, and then became so pathetic with the chasing and the bouncing back and forth. I had no idea Alice went through a Rabbit Hole, though.
I remember this plotline. It was a fun series of episodes (especially if you've watched the early episodes).
Well, it could technically be fantasy if it's caused by magic rather than technology. But the distinction is unimportant from a storytelling perspective.
I had no idea Felicity went that way. I'll have to check it out (is it on DVD - I honestly have no idea). Sort of reminds me how Magnum PI went all weird in its last couple seasons. After Magnum was killed off, and then brought back to life the next season (after a surprise renewal of the series), he started encountering a ghost-like character and there's been some pretty convincing cases that suggest all is not earthly in the last couple seasons, with the final episode possibly completely taking place post-mortem (which can be used to explain some of the weird and continuity-destroying revelations in the finale). Alex
