Poorly treated characters

Man, if you read Full Circle and Unworthy and thought that was any kind of return to a status quo for Chakotay, I have no idea what to tell you.

Yeah, but then you read Children of the Storm, where Eden's giving orders on Voyager's bridge to Voyager's crew about running Voyager, and it feels a bit like a return to status quo.

I haven't read Children of the storm and sadly I don't intend to.
Up until very recently I was a Treklit completist but not any more.Outside of DS9r and Vanguard I will be cutting back considerably.
TNG-I hardly recognise (or care about),same goes forTitan, which feels ponderous at best.SCE seems off the table and TOS very sporadic.

I think people need to open up to change. The ONLY thing I HATED about the TNG relaunch was how much the Enterprise-E crew changed. That's the only thing that truly bothered me.

Will the "The Struggle Within" be in a novel format eventually? Amazon has it as a ebook so I was just wondering.

Well, it can't be a novel, because it's only 25,000 words long, novella-length. If you mean to ask whether it'll ever be published as a physical book, I'm aware of no current plans for that, and it seems unlikely at this time. If there's ever an omnibus of the Typhon Pact series, it might be included there. Or if it sells well enough to warrant further original eBooks, there could eventually be collections of those as there have been for SCE and Mere Anarchy. But as things stand now, the only way to read this novella will be as an eBook.
What about it being included in the back of a novel? I know Star Wars has done that with alot of their stuff that was originally released as ebooks.

Do you know that Vanguard is ending after the next two books?

I'm afraid a lot of loyal readers feel the same way, and it's a shame. When I recently packed up my TNG numbered novels, I realized that many of the ST writers have been doing this for decades. Perhaps what we need is a major influx of new writers who can revitalize the novels the way Beyer has brought Voyager back to life.

I thought that was happened in the early 2000s?
I know the last couple years might not have been the greatest years in Trek Lit, but I was under the impression that most people considered the last few years before that some of the best Trek Lit ever had.

^^ The early 2000s is a decade ago. Time flies.

On second thought, maybe there just aren't writers out there who want to tackle the "universe" that has been created since the programs left the air? If it is daunting for readers to try to "catch up," imagine what it would be like for a writer to try to get a handle on it. Talk about creating your own job security!

I'm no where near close to ready to give up on the current batch of writers, everybody deserves a few off books. I think it's also worth keeping in mind of the craziness that's been going on at Pocket over the last couple years.

You do still get newbies - myself and Mollman & Schuster are first-time Trek novelists this year (though we've done short stories before)

And yours is arguably the best novel to be published this year with Children of the Storm just behind.

As for Mollman and Schuster's story, that was the best in the latest Myriad Universe and only second to KRADS story in volume two when it comes to the Myriad Universe stories.

I for one am glad that "newbies" like yourself are given the chance at full novels given some of the less than good novels from some of the more recent "old" guard.

We can spin hypotheticals until the Talarian quasibovines come home, but it's pure pie-in-the-sky. The whole point of this, I figure, is to try to get the original ebook line going again. So they're not instantly going to turn around and print this on paper. If that ever happens, in some form or another, it'll be years from now, and I doubt anyone's making plans for it at this stage. As things stand now, this is an ebook only, period, end of story.

Which isn't exactly fair for those of us who like to physically feel a book in our hands.

Why thank you very much.

But I feel compelled to point out: Mollmannnnnnnnnnnn. :p
