Ryan Murphy's "American Horror Story" Moving Forward

According to Deadline, the new series from Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk (Nip/Tuck, Glee) has been granted a series order from FX, following its initial pilot order earlier this year. The article says the series is expected to premiere early in October, which seems a fitting time-frame considering the following description of the series.
Described as a psychosexual thriller, American Horror Story centers on a therapist (McDermott) and his wife (Britton) who, dealing with the aftermath of the husband's adultery, move along with their kids into a new house that seems to know all about their fears and plays on them.
As indicated above, the series starts Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton. See the link for a few little more on tone, inspiration, and other casting.

I enjoyed most of Nip/Tuck and think this sounds absolutely fascinating, and Britton's casting certainly helps to amp up my interest as well. Anyone else plan on giving it a chance this fall?

Only reason I am interested: Connie Britton, whom I have lusted after since Spin City. A highly sexy woman in my eyes, and given Fiday Night Lights, a damned talented actress.

Hugo - Mmm, Connie

The show has added several new writers to its cast, including one that makes me very happy:

Tim Minear - previously worked on The X-Files and Angel; co-created Firefly and Wonderfalls; and most recently worked on Dollhouse, Terriers, and The Chicago Code. I am always happy to see Minear getting work - he's a very talented guy, but always ends up on projects that are sadly short-lived.

James Wong - previously worked on The X-Files; co-created Space: Above & Beyond; was co-showrunner on Millennium; and most recently worked on The Event.

The other two are Jennifer Salt and Jessica Sharzer, whose names I'm not familiar with but whose prior works are detailed in the article.

Early reviews say 50% of it is awful and 50% of it is terrifying. I'm gonna have to check this one out.

Well I found one review at eonline...including some rather implausible details on how it frightened the spit out of hardened TV critics... :rommie: I'd take it as a joke, only that's not really the site's style.

An American Horror Story screening was held last night for journalists and members of the Television Critics Association, and a Fox source tells me that some of the attendees were so frightened, they had to be escorted to their cars after the viewing. (Rumor also has it another reporter was too freaked out to enter her own teeny-tiny baby's room when he woke up for his 2 a.m. feeding because "the shadows are making him look...different." Ahem.)

Here's one from Vulture to balance out the saccharine cheerleaderyness of eonline.

Last night, Ryan Murphy unveiled his upcoming FX drama American Horror Story to reporters, and of the many rules it breaks, the biggest one might be its gleeful defiance of the slow-as-molasses trend. So much happens in the first episode of this haunted-house series — so much that you would normally expect to be seeded over the course of several episodes or even several seasons — that you can't ever look away. By the time this show hits episode three, the characters could plausibly be in outer space at the pace it moves at.

Fast-paced, riveting, genuinely scary - sounds good so far. Also, everyone seems to agree that Dylan McDermott shows his ass a lot, which is apparently a good thing?

Oh wow, that looks great! :rommie: This show is going to be a blast.

There have also been a series of short "clue" promo videos, but frankly I don't see this as the type of show where the figure-out-the-clue game is the big draw. Dark, scary antics with a sexy cast is enough of a draw, I would think.

But here are the clue promos anyway. They're kind of cool too, but I wish they hadn't used "Tainted Love" - something more obscure would have been spookier. My favorite is "Lying Down," very David Lynch.

Every show of Murphy's I have watched starts out strong and then degenerates into self-indulgent camp. Pass.

My understanding from folks like Sepinwall is that this show begins already in self-indulgent camp style. However, that might actually work for this series. It won't be good but it may be so bad it's good. I'll watch it out of perverse interest.

I am willing to be surprised, though.

The initial mystery arc is reportedly going to be wrapped up quickly, with the answers provided within the first season, and maybe even within the first few episodes. Then they'll move on to new arcs. It's not going to have a mystery arc stretched over the whole run of the series.

That's a good one. I'll have to remember that when my son cries in the middle of the night tonight.

"Sorry babe...the shadows are making him look...different. You can take this one. Back to bed for me."

Zachary Quinto is joining the cast! :bolian::bolian::bolian:

Just a guest shot, but here's hoping it turns into something more.

And no, he won't be playing Sylar. :D I hope he plays a good-guy character this time round. Or, goodish...

Doesn't this story have a historical flashback element (1920s or something?) If so, it would be a blast to see Quinto in that part of the story.

Sylar is back! In his first TV gig since his star-making turn as the archvillain on Heroes, Zachary Quinto is in negotiations for a major arc on Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s spooky new FX drama series American Horror Story. Additionally, the show is prepping a big two-part Halloween episode whose conclusion will air on Halloween night.

that clinch's if he's in it I am watching. I loved heroes and star trek. now is this based of a book series or comic book series? or is it original idea?
