Sea Serpent Hunt Underway in Alaska

Excellent!

Just another reason for Alaska to be awesome! (although I remain extremely skeptical  )

Oh, Crap! Looks like Putin is rearing his head and coming into the water space of the United States of America again- this time disguised as a sea serpent! Pesky Russians!

^ The reasons are infinite. And if you are not aware of any of them, then maybe you should take a look at a few photos. It's the most beautiful place I've ever been (and I've been to over 40 countries) - lived there 12 years (and am likely moving back very soon) and never got tired of it. Breathtaking, pristine natural beauty, everywhere.

And the lack of godawful heat, debilitating humidity, and ginormous bugs, not to mention the distinct absence of mind-numbingly endless traffic, are definitely pluses as well.

^indeed, Turnagain Arm alone is breathtaking. However, I'm not sure about the bugs being less of a pest in the Prince William Sound region....

Well, Alaska does have mosquitoes in summer...but that doesn't hold a candle to the giant flying palmetto bugs here in Georgia. They look like cockroaches...only they are the size of small ponies, and they FLY. Most disgusting things ever.

An then there are the ants. And the bees. And the wasps. And the huge dragonflies. And the fireflies. And the flies. And the gnats. And the regular cockroaches. And the fleas. And the ticks.

And the mosquitoes.

Lock and Load. ;)

SOLD!

Now I want to move there too. :D

Seriously, I've watched only a couple of documentaries shot there and I would -love- to visit, at the very least. And who knows, maybe one day I will really move there! You never know...

Sea serpents seems less and less plausible as I get older.

I'm still carrying a torch for Bigfoot though. Undiscovered North American ape? Sure, why not.

My paranormal hierarchy of probability goes something like

Bigfoot ->>>> Aliens ->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sea Monsters ->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ESP ->>>>>>>>>>>>> Ghosts

Well I would like to believe in Bigfoot too and did for many years. I mean afterall, if it existed, it's just an undiscovered animal, not an alien or something paranormal, just a rare animal.

But now it's 2011 and I'm forced to conclude it must not exist. In all this time, with not one verified corpse, no fossilized remains, with the explosion of people with digital camera/videocameras/smartphones everywhere, and just the sheer number of people increasing the changes of an encouter, one would have to think we would have had conclusive proof by now if they existed.

You can't prove a negative and lack of evidence doesn't prove Bigfoot doesn't exist, but I'm inclined to think they don't. Even still, it's hard to let go of old beliefs.

I'm not saying I believe in Bigfoot, I'm just saying he's more plausible than a lot of other paranormal stuff is.

If I may bust out a not-entirely-serious pie chart:

(Percent surface area, not scientific)

North America is big. Even the areas we think of as populated have large tracts of unpopulated forested area where people either don't go, or don't go very often. I think it would be possible for a nocturnal, secretive animal to avoid us if that were it's particular mindset.

Even a relatively common creature like the Cougar is not all that commonly spotted, and it's remains are rarely found.

Oh I agree 100%

We've had like 3 killed here in MO in the last 9 months or so, and we don't even have cougars here. (Obviously we do, otherwise they wouldn't be being killed). Point is, they're an extrememly rare animal here in MO, but yet they are sighted with some regularity.

There are people dedicated to finding Bigfoot, they use all types of technology including trail cams, thermal imaging cameras, etc, and they can't find it. All we ever get are blurry images that could be a number of things.

I'm with you on the vast amounts of wilderness in North America but I still think if they existed, we would have proved them to exist by now. Something concrete, something tangible that reptuable biologists could study.

I've been to Alaska and would give my left nut to go back, but I don't buy this hokey sea monster shit.

And Litmus, don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying that to be all "nyah-nyah" at all. I say it with great disappointment because I was fascinated by the possibility for nearly all my 50 years. It's just that I've had to face the reality of the situation and forced to conclude the reasonable answer is they don't exist.
