Most Annoying Commercials

OK...there are two commercials here in the States that have finally gotten on my last frakkin' nerve.

1) PCMatic.com. Pathetic stereotypes, AWFUL acting that conveys everything BUT any idea that you'd want to trust this company with your computer--and better yet? A product I'm sure is nothing more than a vehicle for malware, if you're dumb enough to buy this thing.

2) That Shirley Temple DVD set. Good God, is that calculated to annoy? That awful laugh is like nails on a chalkboard.

And an honorable mention for one where apparently the company in question finally got a focus group and realized they needed to edit the commercial.

3) Orbitz. "Beach Angel." 'Nuff said.

What about you? What commercials annoy you most and why?

Progressive insurance. Incredibly corny, and that "Flo" woman looks like a horse-faced carnie. Disturbing.

Add to that they try and claim they save people money which is irrefutable bullshit.

I love Flo. :adore:

That said, we have Progressive, and we don't save any money.

If you live in Illinois, Eastern Iowa, or Mississippi, you may have seen commercials for Midwest Technical Institute. That is where I work. The commercials are absolutely obnoxious. My boss got this idea in his head that it takes the human brain seeing something 7 times for a person to remember it, so he plays our commercials 7 times every hour during peak TV times. He does the same thing with radio advertisements.

I see those fucking things here in Madison.

God, I can't imagine dealing with that. It's bad enough at my work when I have to raise holy hell to make my point that "NO YOU DO NOT EVER BUY AN EMAIL LIST, NOT FUCKING EVER, SUCK A TAILPIPE." Seeing that kind of wasted money on television ... man, I'd go insane.

He's never going to stop either. In fact, just within the last couple weeks, he decided to start advertising more. Luckily, I never watch TV or listen to the radio, so I don't have to deal with the commercials, but everybody I know is fucking sick of them.

They must be working, though, since the guy can afford to keep doing it.

Any ad that is for some obscure medical product that they never actually say what it is or does, just tell you to "talk to your doctor" about it. Well, DUH!!!

These ads often feature those mutant voices that, in the final .005 seconds, read what sounds like the entire US tax code.

The Colonial Penn Life Insurance commercials drive me up the wall.
Curse you, Alex Trebek!

Also that old Carl's Jr commercial for their taco salad.

Actually all of Carl's Jr's commercials.

Oh, man, that commercial was awful (the HeadOn one). And what's worse is, I know they deliberately timed the release of that ad to the outbreak of the war between Hezbollah and Israel, and then bombarded every news station with it liked crazy. Way to exploit a painful situation, people.

And that one you posted, Timby...did that actually air on TV somewhere? That looks like it came from the wrong part of a furry convention. :cardie:

Coors Light and their "The Mountains turn blue when your beer is cold" and the "Bar Exam" adverts. I mute them any chance I get.

I don't think they're on TV anymore, and I don't watch TV often but I especially loathe those Washington Mutual commercials. The ones with the naked old men jam-packed into a little roped area, trying to make bank statements sound hip by shortening it to "WaMu ReFi!" I mute those as soon as they come on.

Also the newer All-State commercials, with that idiot saying "I'm (insert driving hazard here)." and proceeding to wreck a car. Frankly, I trusted them more when the one guy did his best to channel Morgan Freeman and quoted statistics.

Oh the Mayhem commercials are great stuff!
