So wait, what you're saying is that some people bitching on the internet make a perfectly valid portrayal of a character a "misuse" of the character?

I totally agree with rfmcdpei, Janeway's behavior in BD was perfectly in line with her portrayal in the past, only that this time her attitude comes back to bite her in the ass.

^But Indistinguishable from Magic is a much more recent book than the others. It stands to reason that it hasn't been as widely read yet, that its spoilers are far more "current" than the other examples.

Says a guy who ruined Children of the Storm (for me anyway) because he spoiled that:

Given that Children of the Storm isn't due for release until Thursday this week here and was the most recent release in the USA, it stands to reason that it's not been widely as read yet.

well Captain Sparrow, I think it's bang on the money, she pretty much is like Hitler now in that any mention of her in a thread and the conversation goes to shit.

Janeway's Law is pretty much a done deal in the Literature forum.

Given the (non)progression of the Janeway related threads and the absolute clusterfucks that seem to occur nearly half a decade after they actually occurred concerning Before Dishonour, equating Janeway with Hitler makes perfect logical sense.

I'm aware of maybe half a dozen to a dozen people on this BBS who actively object to Janeway's death, and of maybe two or three who throw temper tantrums about it. I'd hardly call that a large degree or breadth.

I haven't read Before Dishonor (so I can't really comment on her possible get-out-of-death-free card) but I'd like to remind everybody that death (of body, mind, and soul) doesn't necessarily mean the same thing in science-fiction as in other genres.

Technically, IIRC, Godwin's law refers to the invocation of Nazis or Nazism in a thread, not Hitler specifically.

So Janeway can be a Nazi without being Hitler (the gender reassignment surgery notwithstanding)

Godwin's law should be applicable to anything, not only Nazis. It's everytime someone attempts to kill a thread using an over-exaggerated killing argument.
