James Luceno's Darth Plageuis Cover Revealed!

There's a curious bit in the New Essential Chronology book that says Plagueis did create Anakin and that Palpatine was fully aware of this. However the same book also said that he sent Maul to Tatooine because of Anakin, not because of the Jedi and the Queen as the film seems to imply.

Unfortunately I do not have the book with me so I can't exactly give the right citation.

G canon trumps C canon.

That's because he's cloned himself and has learned how to transplant his conscience into those clones. I don't think that is the same thing that Plagueuis has supposedly mastered.

Fixed.

In the EU books Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor and Dynasty of Evil, it is indicated that "essence transfer" from Dark Empire qualifies as the ability to "cheat death" which was sought by the Sith.

^ Uh I pointed that out when I said "learned how to transplant his conscience" thus indicating that there was no need for your above post.

So anyone here pick up the book yet?

Got the book last night and and halfway through now. I'm liking it, especially the parts with Palpatine. :techman:

LOL. I forgot I had started a thread on the book. Yeah I have it. Started it...but am reading two other books at the same time so it'll probably take me longer than usual to finish it. Great so far.

I didn't like it. There was too much name dropping and very little interesting character development. Reducing Palpatine to some ambitious sociopath before he crosses paths with Plagueis really does the character a disservice.

Plagueis was certainly more interesting in his public face, but sadly not as much as a Sith Lord.

Has anyone got the audio book? Daniel Davis is the reader. I heard a preview of it on youtube and he sounded pretty good but couldn't help but wonder how much awesome it would be if Ian McDiarmid had been sought out to read the book.

Just finished it. Pretty underwhelming. The character of Plagueis is actually kind of dull, though the story starts getting good when Palpatine shows up. However, the last third of the book is basically the final year leading up to Phantom Menace, with the last few chapters basically a recap of the movie from Palpatine's perspective. Definately not the best book I've read.

Just finished it. Quite excellent. The first half is better than the second half, though. It was actually quite moving in a character sense, while second half was more about connecting the dots to the Prequel Trilogy.

Since Palpatine and Yoda are my favorite characters, I was really chomping at the bit to finally learn his history and true character. I was afraid the book would barely show Palpatine, but it ended up practically starring him! Plagueis was a fascinating character as well, though.

My favorite section was Plagueis recruiting Palpatine to the dark side. It was actually quite moving... it almost felt like a gay romance between them. Actually, you might even interpret Palpatine as being gay. He never showed any interest in women, had a lot of close guy friends when he was younger, and when they asked him about women he politely deflected the question. And then there's his fascination with the older man who comes to visit him who his father forbids him to see. It's too bad they didn't run with that more... it didn't really come back until the final scene.

The only thing they didn't really establish is why Palpatine hates aliens so much. He works with aliens throughout the entire book. Or is an echo of his scorned feelings for Plageuis?

Also, we finally, finally, sorta maybe got an answer to "Who conceived Anakin?"
It's left open to interpretation, though. Did Plageuis and Sidious conceive him when they did their ceremony, creating the ultimate Sith? Or did the Force create Anakin in response to their attempted ceremony, to destroy the Sith? Since a theme of the book is the mystical consequences of everything they do coming back to haunt them, I suppose we're supposed to believe it's the Force.

Isn't he seen flirting with a woman at one point?

I'm curious, anyone who reads the fan fiction - according to this chart 'Mara Jade Skywalker' has a direct link to Sidious. Who is that?

She first appeared in Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn if I remember rightly.

Amongst other things she's
a former assassin trained by the Emperor, Smuggler and wife to Luke. She was also one of the playable characters in the Mysteries of the Sith add on for one of the Jedi Knight games
