SG-1 didn't get a "true ending" in either of the DVDs, though.

That's because both DVDs were awful.

Ark of Truth was forced to reintroduce an unrelated overused antagonist, the replicators, just to up the interest of the movie, showing how hopelessly hollow and badly developed the whol Ori arc was.

And Continuum was one half the most boring, slow, tedious hour of SG-1 ever created, and the other half the most hilariously over the top fanwanky nonsense (a bazillion Gould ships attacking Earth!!!1111)

How I miss a time when SG-1 was actually good.

AoT was just bad and seemingly rushed.

Continuum, for its problems, it was fun.

However, either didn't really serve as a conclusion to SG-1 as a whole (although, you can argue that AoT at least wrapped up the Ori story).

Ark of Truth wrapped up the story. It concluded the complete story arc of the Ori, which was their enemy for the 2 last seasons. What more needs to be said there?

From that point it was a clean slate to do individual stories, because they have nothing left to wrap up, so they dealt with just about the only major goa'uld left.

Unless you want to see O' Neil marry Carter and live happily ever after then I really don't know what else anyone could expect to finish it off.

SG-1 should have either concluded with a tweaked, 2 hour version of Full Circle, leading into one final movie dealing with the Anubis threat. Or it should just finished with Lost City.

What does it say about the Ori storyline if they had to drag the replicators into Ark of Truth to make it more exciting and interesting?

I personally loved the Ori storyline. The last two seasons were some of my favorites. I agree that dragging the Replicators into "Ark of Truth" was unnecessary and they should have been able to flesh out the story without doing that; I'm not sure why didn't try.

Nothing. The Ori storyline never needed the replicators during the series, so it had little to do with a problem with the Ori arc.
I think that would have more to do with the writers wanting to cram a lot of familiar Stargate stuff in there than actually needing to to save the storyline.
But it was unnecessary, and Ark of Truth wasn't as good as it should have been. The Ori storyline was fine, but it was ended way too abruptly with Ark of Truth, and not done in a good way.

What would be a "true ending"?

All their enemies vanquished, Earth steps up to be the new leader in the galaxy, the Stargate program is revealed to the public, and our heroes retire into the sunset? :p

Or, you know, everyone dies. Either way.

Why would anyone expect that? The intention was to keep putting out Movies. Considering that, the only possible ending to hope for was to tie up the open storylines

They weren't, they were a B plot designed to separate Mitchell and Carter from the rest of the team. It could have been a bland battle with the Ori soldiers, but they went with something a little bit more original and actually more logical instead. I mean even though it was painted as stupid by Mitchell and co, the IOA replicator plan was actually a pretty clever one, certainly compared to somehow finding a mythical arc that has been lying around for millions of years.

Yup, I remember looking forward to the DVD's years back, then falling asleep during both of them, pure drivel.

The Replicator stuff was pure filler.

It was 100% worth it to see Mitchell get beaten up by that Replicator zombie guy. And the bit where the replicator blocks carry on the fight for a few seconds (complete with Terminator music) once the guy had been blown away.

Good filler.

Well, now it's all over for me, too. I missed Gauntlet when it was first-run. Deliberately put off watching it. Last night, I finally bit the bullet and saw it on Netflix. What a tragedy that the show was shut down when it was. Nothing more to say.

Unending was rushed but in a number of ways it was something of a prototype for many Stargate Universe eps. However unlike the other two series finales this one was bittersweet and a more fitiing ending for the series as a whole, the final tour of the ship and the light's out and ship going though hyperspace made for a perfect ending.

I finally caught up with the last few episodes of SG:U over the weekend on Netflix. Suffice to say I thoroughly enjoyed this show from start to finish, and the finale was about as perfect as could be under the circumstances. It was a dignified end to an ambitious show and I, for one, consider certainly don't regret having watched it.

And it didn't leave me with that sick feeling I had for days following the final "Enterprise" episode.
