An Open Invitation to Janeway Fans

Kirsten Beyer

Writer
Red Shirt
Hello folks,

I've just received a listing of the panels for this year's Shoreleave Convention at the Hunt Valley Marriott near Baltimore, MD. The event is scheduled for July 8-10, so I know this is short notice, but for any who live in the area or are planning to attend, I will be hosting a panel called "Bring Back Janeway" most likely to take place at some point on Saturday, July 9. When I get the exact time, I will update here.

It is my hope that this will be an opportunity for fans who have been disappointed by Janeway's death in Before Dishonor, and the continuation of the Voyager novels to express their thoughts and concerns and to discuss with me in more detail the process invovled in creating these stories.

As I am not on Facebook, or Twitter, and don't post regularly on many other fan sites, I would appreciate it if those here would pass along this information to the various Bring Back Janeway communitites.

I look forward to speaking with you all.

Best,
Kirsten Beyer

Ooh exciting! If only it were another weekend.
I shall pass the word along, though to people I know going :)

Wow, that's brave.

:guffaw:

LOL. Agreed.

I probably can't make it, but thank you for hosting such a panel. :) That's pretty cool, plus it'd be fun to get insight on the writing process. Word will be passed along.

Thanks for the heads-up!

EDIT: Suggested attire for the occasion should be a Kevlar vest and flame-retardant underpants.

There will be security at this thing, right?

I'll echo everyone else here: Kirsten, you have balls of steel. Good luck!:bolian:

Thanks for the invitation, Kirsten. I truly would like to come, but sadly I'm too far away from there. I doubt that many fans will be able to come so quickly to Baltimore, because they live far away or their responsibilities don't allow them to go.

Is it possible also to send any questions or statements to you or to the convention team, which would be read at your panel? Maybe this way we could get answers to our questions and say our opinion too.

No... suggested attire is a HOUSE OF JANEWAY t shirt! :bolian:

Alas... family are arriving that weekend, or else I'd be there!

Hmmm... why the panel? Are we trying to stir up support for the idea among fans or among the publishers?

ETA: The lady doesn't need a kevlar vest since SHE didn't kill Janeway. ;)

Of course... she hasn't brought her back yet either.

Hmmmm.

:rommie:

if you bring Janeway back, i swear i will never buy another VOY novel again. in fact, i might stop buying all 24C novels and only buy Vanguard.

Well, since I have vowed never to buy another "Voy" novel until KJ is honorably returned, then my vote (and many others) cancels you out, sorry, a large number of people want Kathryn Janeway back (we know she lives), and sooner the better.

Me too. Although I'd probably still do the other series, just not Voyager. A lot of good stuff has been done with the characters following Janeway's death, and bringing her back would pretty much undo all of it.

I agree. Without Janeway the characters have grown so much more than they ever could have, and that is a result of her death.

I plan on attending this one Ms. Beyer! :)

Good point! I wish I had a real HoJ T-shirt. :) :techman:

Honestly, though, I'd love to see Janeway back. Does that make this thread about a 50-50 split now?

The only way that would happen would be a time travel reboot. Otherwise, everyone's still grown and learned and changed. Bringing Janeway back from the dead/Q wouldn't undo any of that.

I understand where you are coming from, but if she comes back in a non time travel way then (totally my own views here) she becomes the center of the universe again, forcing others to the side.

Look, I don't hate her (I think she was crazy a lot of the time, and I used to rank her as my favorite character but did a rerank not long ago and she fell a lot), I just think the series, especially under Kirsten Beyer, is so much....deeper is the word that I think of, without her. Just my own opinion.

I don't get it. Why would Janeway's return mean that all the other characters would be affected in a negative way? What they've gone through is still there, still real. From what others have said about Kirsten's story-telling ability, I think she can bring Janeway back and keep the story line healthy. I have faith! ;)

When was Janeway the "center of the universe" and why would her return make her that? She was in every episode of the series, of course, because she was the captain, but she didn't dominate plots the way Seven of Nine and the EMH did in the later seasons.

Do you think that Kirsten couldn't keep the novels "deep" with Janeway in the cast of characters? I think she can. I hope she does . . . and soon! :techman:
