Karen Gillan going wild in New york

Well, I just hope this was just a bit of 'youthful exuberance', and that shes more careful from now on. I think we've seen way too many actors and actresses who let their careers implode after a little bit of success has gone to their heads.

This is why while there are many characters I love, there are very few performers who I actually admire. So, I'm kinda glad this is her last series. Who really doesn't need this kind of publicity.

And before anyone say it, why yes, I am an old prude. :p

Don't know if this happened or not, but I find it hard to believe that multiple guests called her Lady Godiva. That's a reference that I doubt one out of a hundred Americans would get
You'd be wrong.

I remain unconvinced. Less than 1 out of 4 Americans can name 2 of the 9 current members of SCOTUS, more than a third can't point out the continent that contains the Amazon on a map, and only 40% can list the three branches of government, but there's a great repository of Americans with knowledge of 1000 year old stories about Anglo-Saxon tax protestors?

Forgive the hyperbole of my initial post, but the point still stands.

Naked lady. That tends to grab our attention.,

The article mentions this incident took place in April. Probably just before she appeared on Craig Ferguson's show. She also talks about her bruise.

None of the above feature a naked woman.

I will agree that not 1 in 100 Americans will remember why she was riding through town naked, when this supposedly happened, or what culture it came from, but we damn well know that Lady Godiva was a naked chick.

Actually, in Jon Stewart's book about America there are mocked up pictures of all the Supreme Court Justices naked:lol:

Wrong arm, unless the photo in the article was flipped.

Hair's all wrong, too. Her hair is long and ringlet-y in the Craig video; no bangs. Her hair is shorter, straight, and with bangs in the article photos.

I also gotta laugh at some of the comments on the article asking for CCTV footage... They do realize the incident was supposed to have happened in New York, right? Does NY have CCTV?

The pictures in the article are more recent and not from the time of the "incident" or the interview. She might just be clumsy.

I didn't.

And I'm the type of American who posts in obsure forums about British TV, and knows what happened on 14/10/1066...

Maybe I'm way off base here, but I just don't see it.

You'd think no one ever accidentally locked themselves out of their hotel room before... Or got drunk. Maybe it's just the difference in attiudes to drink but why does her having gotten drunk seem to mean she has a problem to so many people here?

What I think it is that a lot of her fans like her and her character. In the last decade we have seen way too many examples of actors and actresses self destructing. Ultimately, as fans we react the way a relative would to a family member or friend who drinks too much. Basically, we worry because we care even if none us will ever meet her in real life.

But the fact she got drunk means nothing to me. I mean people get drunk all the time and it's nothing to worry about.

It's kind of like how many people felt like John Edwards was the "real deal" in that he was a statesmen and not an ordinary politician. To quote or paraphrase Doctor Who, he was a hero to many then we all found out he was anything but the real deal.

This may come off as naive but I think we all at any age or stage in life really need a hero or someone to believe in. Maybe Karen Gillan isn't really a hero but just an actor. However, she is greatly admired and to see in this day and age someone you admire falter even a little it's very worrisome. Basically, I'm tired of looking up to people only to endure the inevitable disappointment.

I think what we need is a bit of perspective here. We have no evidence that she's gone all Charlie Sheen/Lindsay Lohan on us. At the moment she's a young woman doing what a lot of young men and women do, going out having a good time and often getting worse for wear. Most of us will get drunk at least once in our lives, most of us will do something a bit daft. I don't drink very much these days, and even back in the day I didn't, and I prefer to be tipsy than drunk, I like to relax but get a bit worried at losing control, but that said it is easy to overdo things and a couple of times I have woken up without a 100% clear recollection of what happened the previous evening.

I think what I'm saying is that there are about a million stages between Mother Theresa and Charlie Sheen and I'm going to assume that Karen, like the majority of people, probably sits in the middle ground between the two, until we get something concrete that says differently.

Heh, I just said what everyone was thinking. What everyone always thinks. If I'm wrong, and I hope I'm wrong, then good. If I'm right, then, I'm right! And she needs help. She probably isn't on anything illicit, but I'm from Essex, I've been drunk/seen MANY drunk people in my time, but crying naked in a hallway is something I haven't been privy too. To be honest it sounds more like she was attacked in some way, if this is indeed true.

Let's share embarrassing drunk stories in honor of Miss Gillan's [alleged] experience in New York!

I've been seriously drunk about five times in my life. I don't particularly enjoy the experience and prefer nothing more than a slight buzz of inebriation when I do drink. But it does appear I'm a conscientious drunk, because one time, after having way too much champagne, I realized I was about to be very sick and grabbed the nearest, empty, bowl-shaped object I could find to help contain the mess. I heaved and evacuated the contents of my stomach, then passed out quite pleased with myself for keeping the torrent fully within the confines of the bowl.

I later found out the bowl was, in fact, a colander.

i've never been drunk.

i don't really drink. i've had precisely 1 pint of a fermented yeast product. Guinness. foul stuff. i've had a couple of alco-pops and when i was a kid, my dad gave me a couple of snifters of different spirits and that basically put me off.
