I don't like the OP's definition of "strong atheist". I would rather define my position as something like: Of course there are no gods and there's even less logic in believing in specifically the Christian god (or the Muslim god, etc), but I don't really give a fuck.

"Apatheist", yes it is an actual term.

De facto atheist based on the poll definitions - "strong atheist" as defined in the poll is a foolish position requiring a negative proof. One can't get there by logic alone; such an aggressive assertion requires an emotional component that doesn't impress me.

No one should care if there is an intelligent creator of reality as we know it? Why in the world shouldn't we care about such an important thing?
There are a few different ways that I look at it:

1. From a scientific perspective, there is no proof, either way, so it is irrelevant.

2. From within a religious framework: If I do good things, I am a good person, and I presume would enter into Heaven when I die. If I do bad things, I would be damned. BUT, if I only do good things BECAUSE I would go to Heaven, or to avoid Hell, then I am selfish and a hypocrite, and the Bible specifies that hypocrisy is one of the worst sins. So the way I see it, I'll just live, be the best person I can be for my own sake and the sake of the people around me, and let the metaphysical sort itself out however it wants to. If I do that, and I die, and I end up before some pearly gates or whatever, and I am told that yes, I tried my best to be a good person, but because I refused to bend a knee to Someone in the process I am going to Hell, then I will go, and gladly. Because if the "powers of Good" are going to be all douche-y like that, then perhaps the "powers of Evil" aren't as bad as they are billed as, either! ;)

2a. I'm an American, and I don't see where we should be bending a knee to anyone. If Jesus wants to show up and be buds, that's fine, but we fought a war to not have to call people things like "Lord".

3. We waste an awful lot of resources on worshipping things that we can't prove exist. Resources that, to be really ironic, could be used to help REAL people who really need help, which would be in adherence to what Jesus said we should be doing in the first place!

So I don't know, and I don't care. And I do it for Jesus.

What are you talking about? I'm not claiming it is provable, I'm not claiming religion is logical, I'm not claiming we should worship, I'm not claiming we should waste resources on worshipping. But not to care, as a person, if a creator exists or not?

But not to care, as a person, if a creator exists or not?
If he/she/it/they actually show up and interfere directly and provably with the universe around me, then I would care. (But even then, I would not worship. See 2a, above. They will obey the law just like anyone else, or I'm calling the cops. ;)) But as it is, I have more important things to worry about.

Well, I don't see how one can not care about a potential reason of their existence and the existence of reality as we know it.

Ask her about her scorn for ST fans before you lose your heart, man.

Well, I don't really care about ST anymore

I'd be very happy to be an "apatheist" but a catholic school killed that for me.
