Red Squad NOT Disbanded after Paradise Lost

Photon

Commodore
Commodore
They might have been following orders, but they should have been busted down to freshman @ SFA

They should have sent to prison for engaging in treason against the Federation.

My only thought is that Leyton took the full force of the punishment, so as to spare anyone who followed him.

Uh...they're all dead, aren't they? So they can't get busted any more than they already are. ;)

seriously though, I don't know how much responsibility they would have had. I'm sure Leyton was very careful in couching the orders he gave them, maybe he told them it was a test of some kind? At any rate I'm not sure they could have known, or expected to know, what Leyton was actually planning. I'm sure the orders Leyton gave them weren't obviously, blatantly illegal orders. And even if they were, I don't know, what is a typical cadet's responsibility when faced with such illegal orders? Would they be expected to go over the head of a *senior admiral* and inform Starfleet Command directly? Leyton could have found out and then placed the whole blame on them anyway.

But they gottem a starship after committing treason even though it went boom. They should not even gotten the opportunity to even do anything remotely like they got between Paradise Lost and Valiant.

^ I have heard it suggested that the reason Red Squad got the Valiant was basically to get them out of the way.

That seems like a waste of resources in a war. I thought they were on a training mission when the officers were all killed, and they took over the mission.
It seems to me even if they weren't busted down to Freshmen, they should've been broken up, not kept together.

Ah, but we only have Watters' word on that, yes? And we all saw how reliable that little shit was.

I don't know if the Valiant was just an excuse to get Red Squad out of the system, or if it was actually part of Leyton's plot all along. It just seems so damn suspicious.

You would have thought the academy would have learned it's lesson after Nova Squad about having elite squadrons at the academy.

Quite a waste of a Defiant-class warship in...well..war time though don't you think?

The Red Squad members who survived should have been kicked out of the academy for their actions. It would be an interesting novel idea to see where the three of them are today. I always liked that episode. Overzealous cadets who are forced into taking command of a ship after their officers are killed and think they have enough experience and training to pull off an actual Starfleet mission. Recipe for disaster and it was.

I find it dubious that Red Squad was on the Valiant that early. We're told that they were on a 3 month training cruise before the war began, which leaves at least a year between when that began and the events of the attempted coup. Nor do I believe Watters was lying in that instance. Nog idolised Red Squad and if they had been missing from the Academy for such an extended period of time you think he would have mentioned it.

Not counting Jake and Nog, there was actually only one survivor (Dorian Collins). They never said what happened to her after this.

^ There was a story from Strange New Worlds, I think, that focused on Collins after the incident.
