Got myself a Master's degree in Astronomy and a PhD in Astrophysics, with focus on statistical analysis of large-scale structures of universe.
As a whole, about 10 years of sweat, blood, terror and paranoia. It was pretty sweet.

They are actually great for improving your writing skills, as the majority of work is done in essay form (multiple choice was very minimal) and history professors are some of the toughest graders of writing that I have come across throughout my education. Plus, a good foundation in methods of historical thought (as opposed to just historical facts) will prepare you for many other areas of study. But this is just my opinion of course.
