Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

I'm sure there will be 2D showings, too.

I hope they're not going to put James Purefoy in a lot of Martian makeup! I've been waiting for him to re-appear ever since Rome!

Hmm, come to think of it, Purefoy would be a much better John Carter type. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to buy some teenbopper hearthrob type in the role.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

^ True story: we were running out of adjectives after the first twenty-five or so titles, which is why we finally switched over to the "CONAN AND THE . . ." titles.

Crom help me, you have no idea how close we came to CONAN THE SUPERB . . .

(And, for the record, CONAN THE DESTROYER is indeed the novelization of the movie.)

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

One thing that always had me curious,
as we can clearly see there have dozens of new adventures penned by various authors of Conan, and to a lesser extant other Robert E. Howard characters.

I wonder why the ERB estate never really cashed in by authorizing more new novels (I think there has only been 3 or 4 new Tarzan novels in the last 40 years) of Tarzan or John Carter.
You would think this would be an obvious resource for them.
Anyone have any insights as to why this may be?
I would personally love to read new adventures of these characters.

That's correct. CONAN takes place after the fall of Atlantis. KULL takes place before it.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

very cool though I have only found the one kull omnibus which has all the robert e howard stories in it. not that I am complaining at all I was just wondering was he not popular enough to expand except in comics by both marvel and dark horse?

you worked for tor mr.cox why did'nt you contribute to any of the stories in this run? I love you're books.

Believe it or not, I've never actually written anything for Tor, which is clearly sheer sloth on my part. Not counting endless reams of cover copy, of course. One of these days . . . .

Tor's CONAN books were edited at various points by Jim Rigney, Harriet McDougall, and Pat LoBrutto. I never edited any of them myself, but I did have fun commissioning some of the covers back in the old days and handled some of the boring, contractual stuff. Ken Kelly and Julie Bell did most of the covers back then.

I also edited the novelization of KULL THE CONQUEROR.

(Kull was basically REH's first draft of Conan. He never quite caught on the way Conan did . . . .)

Don't be silly. There are lots of adjectives you could have used!

"Conan the Nice".
"Conan the Good."
"Conan the Happy".
"Conan the Bon Vivant".
"Conan the Pleasant".
"Conan the Effeminate".

Clearly a failure of imagination.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

you're sick.

and it looks like the tor books are slowly going into e form 3 of the jordan books are aviable. I so would've like to have seen either george r r martin or david drake write a conan novel.
