If the "pin" is hollow and connects to the main compartment via the tiny square hole, then maybe some fluid was to come into the compartment or something was to be placed in the compartment and allowed to drain out and, once drained, the plunger seals it.

Why am I thinking it's a relic holder or something like that?

I have no idea what that might be other than very cool.

You can post a couple of pictures on ebay (one of the boards) and i'm sure someone will be able to ID it for you.

I'd start out on the vintage board:
http://forums.ebay.com/db2/forum/Vintage/1000000005

If no one there can help you they will tell you what other board to try. Good luck!! It's very cool.

i'll do that. Thank you.

bit more info on it from my SIL.

the pin is hollow and is part of it, it doesn't come out. it's made out of lead and was gold plated(some of the gold plating is still on it)

the CR mark is one of the early marks used by Corocraft.

Holds vials of the water from Lourdes I would imagine.

Thanks for letting us know.

(Did you get an estimated value?) ;)

I'm not that familiar with etsy. I know it used to be for handmade items only. Is it fixed price or auction style?
