Highlander remake on the way

yWell, since the original movie ended the story and the wisely never made any sequels I guess a remake is the only way to go.

What? I can remember the past any way I want to.

By all means! I mean I'm so glad the Alien saga ended with Aliens, anything more would have just screwed it up:techman:

Highlander Remake update

New Financier Comes on to HIGHLANDER Reboot; Justin Lin Still Attached; New Screenwriters Announced

RCR Media Group has sent out a press release announcing they’re co-financing the Highlander reboot with Summit Entertainment and Neal Moritz Productions. For those unfamiliar with the premise, it’s about immortal guys called Highlanders who cut off each other’s heads until only one Highlander remains. Then he gets a special prize and a Queen song plays. The press release reports that Fast Five director Justin Lin is still attached, but keep in mind that his plate is filling up with other projects due to the success of Fast Five. Not only does Universal want to hit the gas on Fast and Furious 6, but Lin is also attached to Terminator 5. Does he want to make the first great Highlander movie (the original is campy fun, but not a great movie) or does he want to go to a film that’s likelier to succeed like Fast 6 or T5?

The press release also announces that Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man) wrote the screenplay, but back in February we reported that Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg had been hired to rewrite the script that was originally penned by The Wibberleys (National Treasure) . Neither Rosenberg nor The Wibberleys are mentioned in the press release, which you can read after the jump.

Looks like this movie is still going to happen. It won't be a matter of if, but when this movie comes out.

I saw a great casting suggestion on another board, someone suggested that Thomas Jane play Connor MacLeod. I never realized how much Jane resembled Christopher Lambert! :techman:

Loved highlander 1, i thought Highlander 2 was enjoyabe as a switch off your brain and enjoy type movie(the best version being the 2004 special edition)...Highlander 3 was OK but nothing special.......Highlander 4 i had no idea what that was about because i had never seen the TV show.

But I'm all for a new Highlander movie.

This could be good... maybe...

If we're talking casting, I think Antonio Banderas would be a great Ramirez.

I think a remake is a good way to go. The Highlander concept is so cool, but generally has not been executed well. Looking back, even the first one has not held up well. Basically it has Clancy Brown and nostalgia going for it.

I agreed with Aragorn. If they really preplanned it, it could be epic. I also not gaga about doing a future Highlander. Part of the appeal is that the immortals have lived a long time and we can explore different aspects of Earth history with them.

Oh good lord...

Well except for thinking they are all called "highlanders", his summary is right on the money.

Since they're rebooting/remaking the Highlander concept from the bottom up, I'd hope they take a serious step back and try to assess at what points the previous iterations went off the rails in terms of story, plot, and execution.

The biggest issues I can see, would have to be the concept of the "power" taken when one immortal beheads another in addition to the existence of immortals and where they come from in the first place.

(This immortal is 400 years old, this immortal is 23 years old... how is this a game where their can be only one left standing when new players constantly take the field?)

Define what the "power" is? Is it just knowledge?

Is it some sort of actual tangible energy that causes immortality to occur and once regrouped to the last man will impart some sort of "gift"?

Will they have abilities that will start to manifest over time once you gain enough of the so called power? (If so, why would anyone take apprentices and train "newbies".)

Are "The Rules" real or just something created over time and passed down to a point where they're treated as real? Is there a difference? Why have they never been questioned. Why can't we see what happens to someone who doesn't follow the rules?

I really hope they're willing to sit down and think most of this stuff through before they try and start over from scratch with a different chef, yet most of the same ingredients.

I think I am the only one who ENJOYED Highlander II in its sillyness...

Not at all, i loved it, Sean Connery back as Ramires was worth the admission fee alone.....and his death scene with the big fan and the bagpipes ..."But if you can shummon it all up... at one time... in one place... you can accomplish shomething... glorious.".....brought a tear to my eye.

I like it too, although not as a sequel to Highlander, gads what a terrible concept. Oh yeah, we're aliens really, we just forgot. :wtf:

At least the Renegade edition clears that bit up, overall it's a fun action movie in it's own right IMO.

But then somehow you get TV shows from the universe and more movies after the original story is told so it should read...

;)

Why is everyone going so old with their casting choices?
In many cases age=perfection of craft
Not always mind you, from time to time Hollywood finds capable actors who can act beyond their years.

Thomas Jane, or his like over a Shia LeBeouf, Zach Effron or Taylor Lautner any day.

the original movie was great, but none of the others were worth watching. the anime movie that came out a few years was very good though.

The Immortals are not called Highlanders, they're called immortals.

Connor & Duncan MacLeod are called Highlanders because they originated from the 'Highlands' of Scotland.

;)
