Awhile back I had touched upon a design like this. Effectively the idea was kind of a "parallel universe" transwarp-capable vessel similar in basic concept to the Excelsior-class in terms of speed, large size, performance and so forth.
The idea was for the vessel to have characteristics similar to the Sovereign-Class, with some Excelsior-Class and Nu-Enterprise characteristics mixed in.
As the design evolved, I came across a design by a graphic artist named Josh Samuelson who had come up with a design called the USS Venture which was similar in concept to what I was looking for, but not exactly. Regardless the design does incorporate a number of characteristics that I consider to be useful, though I obviously do not intend to copy the design (In addition to reflecting an absence of creativity; it is also an example of copyright infringement) simply using it as a basis. I have some reference pictures of Mr. Samuelson's design.
The design has the clean elegant lines of the Nu-Enterprise, as well as some of the blended characteristics similar to the Sovereign Class though in some respects it actually is less blended in areas where it shouldn't be -- for example it has a navigation-dome rather than blending the neck right on up to the base of the saucer (which I don't think would look right for an 2280's design)
It of course has a number of characteristics I don't particularly like. Some of these characteristics were actually some of the characteristics I don't like regarding the Sovereign-Class, and the Nu-Enterprise design. Like the Sovereign-class design, as well as this one have an ovalized-saucer which I don't really like (it also has these unsightly 'clipped' sections on the flanks of the saucer at mid-length). Like the Nu-Enterprise the pylons have some curvature to them, and the engine-nacelles are way too close to each other, neither of which I care for.
With all that said here is the basic idea I'm looking into (I could use volunteers since my artistic skills are less than stellar)
Regarding the Saucer: I'm thinking of the dorsal section of the saucer to be similar in basic shape to the Sovereign class, except circular in shape with the clipped sections at the mid-flank area to be removed. The wedge-section on the top of the Sovereign's saucer was based around some kind of idea of warp-field streamlining which I think is unnecessary (The design is going to use an engine design which effectively compresses space in front of the ship and stretches it behind the ship -- the vessel isn't subjected to warped space) so I'd rather just remove it. Also, I have no intention to place the impulse engines that far outboard so I'd prefer to remove those babies as well. In regards to the dorsal saucer section, I'd prefer a set-up similar to the USS Venture or the USS Excelsior
Regarding the Secondary-Hull: The USS Venture is a very good basis with which to start with. Regardless, I was thinking of largely changing the shape of the navigation deflector, for starters, effectively retaining the same height but effectively circular overall. From a profile, view there is a small 'lip' like protrusion just below the neck which for the time being I'd like to retain as I have an idea of forming that into a chine-like structure similar to the Enterprise B, then blending that into the neck at one point or another. This kind of goes well with the idea of redesigning the dorsal section of the secondary hull to be more like the Sovereign Class. The saucer-shuttlebay position on the Sovereign could be replaced with a centerline impulse deck which seems superficially like it would blend in really well.
Regarding the Engine Pods: The basic design is good, but I'd prefer it if the front cap covered the whole front of the nacelle and the nacelle more dedicated into a tear-drop shaped.
Regarding the Engine Pylons: Unsure what to do here, but I want the proportionate spacing to be similar to the Enterprise-E or Excelsior.
What do all of you think?

Should Josh Samuelson feel that as my design evolves, that it still looks too much like his design, I would welcome it if he told me via e-mail (KJ_Lesnick@hotmail.com) -- I'd ask the moderators at that point to delete the thread
