I'm going to tone down the red, and paint the top engines dark gray. I don't want to lose the red completely though. I'll be back in 1 hour.

Ok I toned down the reds a little, and got rid of the red engines on top.

That is a definite improvement, but I think you can still do better with the use of the red rather than using the paint bucket on the most convenient panels. If I get some time this weekend would you mind if I take my photoshop to it for a few suggestions?

I have to agree... I really loved this when it was monochromatic... but once the over-emphasized panel accents were in place, it really ruined the effect for me.

SUBTLE is better. The TMP Klingon ship worked, because it was very, very subtle. Qo'nos 1 was okay, as well, because it was subtle. The TMP 1701 was subtle... you get the idea.

Go with big, bold coloring, and it doesn't look like a ship anymore, it looks like a toy.

Remember... color variation is less detectable by the human eye the further away from your viewing object you are. So, you model "scale" in part by making colors as similar as possible while still maintaining detail.

I'm not liking the red either, I'm thinking of going with the subtle pattern too. Slightly different shades of grey and green. I still want to keep the light green/gray base coat though as an homage to the original D7 and not the darker green of the K'tinga.

I'd like to see more colorful ships actually, including something like dazzle camouflage.

Dazzle camo works well enough for messing with people trying to visually sight ships on the water, it's good for breaking up silhouettes and making it hard to count ships or discern their orientation, but any kind of electronic sensing strategy would render it a useless waste of paint. I guess if your admiral is really into flashy paint schemes, (not that there's anything wrong with that) otherwise is looks silly on a spaceship.

This is what I'm going with, the red just didn't work out.

I like the darker shade of green used there :) :techman:

Vastly improved... but if it were me, I'd even go more subtle for the "highlight plates." Maybe make a 50/50 intermediate tone between what you used and your "base hull color."

You can make a few highlights in "reddish" but I'd go more along the lines of "deep blood" or "rust" and I'd only make them very subtle details... warning marking stripes, junction boxes, etc.

But, it's your baby. Just giving my 2cents...

I like the green over the red myself, as I agree the latter was a tad too distracting. But it's a really nice ship, so I have no doubt you'll get the small tweaks worked out. :)

Much better with the green instead of the red. I was starting to think it had the garish look of an old Romulan warbird, with the red. (Though granted, the Romulan color scheme is different.)

    The green looks better.

Wow, that is one sexy beast... fantastic work! Must say that while the red was striking, I like the muted tones of the green better.

If I may offer a suggestion out of the box here... what if you used a dark shade of red not to go with the actual hull patterns, but as a stylized splash of blood? You know, like say a wolf whose mouth and face is slathered red after he'd slain a foe. If the romulans can go with looking like birds, the klingons can go with looking like blood-thirsty beasts straight out of combat, ready for more. :D

While I, personally, have no problem with that sort of thing for small combat craft (fighters, etc)... it would feel "silly" to me to see that on a large capital ship. But that's just me...

I've always wondered, if Klingons love the color red so much(look at their computers, lighting etc), why are their ships green?
I wonder what their ships would look like in bronze . . . take the color of their disruptor pistols for example

The red feathers on the wings could always go underneath like on the BOP, maybe would look more "correct" that way.

Good choice. The darker green, that is.
