Torchwood: Miracle Day premiere date

That new promo on Starz is interesting with all the characters addressing the screen and introducing themselves and their role. I haven't seen anything like that since Eccleston's original promo I think.

Provisional BBC schedules for the week of 8th July (the US premiere) have been released, and Torchwood is not scheduled for that week, so unless there are any last minute changes, it appears that Torchwood: Miracle Day will have its worldwide premiere on Starz on 8th July.

At this stage, it appears even Australia will see Miracle Day before the UK does, as the premiere there is scheduled for 9th July, the day after the US.

It will be an interesting chance to see what effect a UK series premiering abroad first and being pirated has on the UK viewing figures.

^I wouldn't count on it. BBC often add things to the schedule after they've been announced by the press office. Though it wouldn't be the first time that a BBC Co-production with a US channel has aired internationally first.

They always usually include high profile premieres in the press office Network TV Week Highlights for the day/week they are to be shown from the moment they are published on the BBC website, even if they just say "Day and time TBC".

The final series of "My Family" starts tonight at 9pm, and lasts for 11 episodes, which would take it up to August 26th. I don't think it is likely that the BBC would move a programme from its timeslot after three episodes in that slot when it has begun in that slot, unless it wasn't doing good enough like Outcasts.

A 9pm timeslot opens up on July 12th as "Luther" finishes its run on July 5th, so that looks like the best bet at the moment for the UK broadcast of Miracle Day.

Unless there is a very last minute change of mind, the earliest it can be shown now is on a Saturday, which while it would not completely unheard of for a post-watershed drama to be shown on Saturday nights, it would be unusual. I think the last time this was tried was with Moffat's Jekyll, and that did not work out so well in terms of viewing figures.

While it wouldn't be the first time a BBC co-production has premiered abroad first i.e. Band of Brothers, those programmes were always new, original productions. Torchwood: Miracle Day is a continuation of a programme that started on the BBC as a BBC-only commission, and has until now always premiered in the UK first.

EDIT: Noticed that a new series of Traffic Cops starts on June 23rd at 9pm, with a second episode the following Thursday. It doesn't have the usual "2/13" etc. indicator of the episode number and number of total episodes in the run, so no idea how many episodes there are in this run besides the two scheduled. Traffic Cops isn't the sort of programme that has to be shown week-in week-out, or even in the same timeslot, so there is a tiny possibility that Torchwood: Miracle Day may be shown on BBC One the day before the Starz premiere. Not very likely I don't think though.

^No it doesn't, Doctor Who has been added to the schedule after initial release, as have other shows. Though they haven't released the press pack yet, which they usually would have for a high profile drama, even if they didn't release the air date.

YAY!!!

Only one day behind our American neighbours. You know what, I can live with that. To be honest, Saturday is more convenient for me than Firday anyway.

^ I hadn't heard that, but it would be cool. (Does SPACE even have the license to air S1 & S2?). I haven't seen those since they originally aired on CBC, though I've got CoE on DVD.

Only season 1 of Torchwood aired on CBC. Season 2 actually originally aired on Space, and Space has since aired season 1 as well.

The marathon is mentioned here, though you'll have to scroll about half way down.

Latest date being speculated about for Miracle Day UK premiere is Thursday 14th July, six days after Starz in the U.S. If that is true, do the BBC actually WANT people to use "other means" to watch this season of Torchwood?

I suppose the BBC doesn't have to care too much about this season of Torchwood, because the fate of the series in entirely in the hands of Starz. If Miracle Days bombs and Starz does not renew Torchwood for another season, that is it for Torchwood, at least in the short to medium term, but possibly forever, because the BBC is either unwilling or unable to fund it themselves.

Well the BBC could always do something along the lines of

Show the following part on BBC3, then air it on BBC1 the following week.

That is a possibility, but I doubt it, as the BBC don't seem to like doing things that way now. I think they did it for Torchwood Season 2 when it was on BBC2, and also for Spooks, but for the last couple of years of Spooks, it has been BBC1 only.
