Anybody else tired of that damned Axe Body spray ad on this site?

You know the one, where you roll your mouse over and get to run back and forth catching angels?

I actually found it a cute diversion the first time I played it, especially with it's NES inspired graphics and sound.

But now? Everytime my pointer even touches a part (a flippin part!) of the ad the damn thing opens up with it's 8-bit diddy, this is especially annoying when I am listening to music on the PC while I'm surfing.

Not only that, but there are a few times where the ad will actually be at both the top and sides of the forum...making it nearly impossible not to roll over the damn thing!

The ads pay the bills to host the site. So from a business point of view I understand why they're there. That said, whomever is programming the floating ads has gotten substantially better at tricking the user to click through to get the the credit for the 'unique visit,' form a TrekBBS poster.

Someone who works on this site is very clever and needs to apply his/her "skills," at a more for profit driven media site like Huffington, Drudge or MSNBC.

I love the ads. I love them all. They present a constant challenge of hyper vigilance so that threads might be read and ads held at bay. DO NOT HOVER NEAR THE EDGES.. the suspense, it's a beautiful thing. See them, but do not let them consume you.

It's like accidently stepping on a wad of bubble gum! But I just turn the volume down and it isn't so bad when I do accidently roll over it.
Gotta pay the bills, though!

Bane of my existence.

In before the axe :p

I have the same issue with this ad. I get that they need ads to make money for the site, but the ads aren't supposed to be so much trouble that they make you not want to go to the site or leave early which is sometimes the case with me and this particular ad. I just get frustrated with it disrupting my visit and I get tired of bothering with it.

I don't like that one either. It took me forever to figure out how it was being activated, too. I hadn't realized I was rolling over it!

The other one is that full page Sprint one that suddenly pops into existence while you're trying to read a post...and the "x" to close it is no-where in site so you're forced to watch it before you can see the forum again.

This comment cracked me up! Totally demented point of view but I love it. :techman:

Why would this get closed?

SPOCKED is wise.

This isn't the forum for complaining about ads.

There's already an active thread in QS&F about ads, and this particular one has been mentioned.

So, turn out the lights, the party's over.
