Deadline: Trek 2 May Be Pushed to Holiday 2012

Really whilst the wait is slightly annoying, it makes you more eager to see it. And I'd rather they took the time and did it right than rush it to make a deadline. Didn't Insurrection suffer from that they worked to a deadline instead of waiting till everything was right with the script?

I think Insurrection suffered from having too much time.

It might make you or i ,avid trek fans eager to see it but the general public has a short memory and will lose interest if the wait between films is too long.

There's a "document" out there, not sure what it's status is on these boards, but it clearly shows that Insurrection's problem was a combination of too much time and too many fingers (especially actors' fingers) in the pie.

Frankly, I find this a little annoying. This script should have been started before the end of the first opening weekend, with the movie being released only 2 years after the first, and the third movie only two years after that. I really worry that they're going to lose a lot of the momentum they gained from the first movie doing so well.

Fade In by Micheal Piller is a great read. I still have a copy on my hard drive for anyone that hasn't been able to snag a copy by "other means".

I'm finding it really weird that the script to the sequel still isn't finished even though they "green-lighted" it prior to the release of Star Trek 2009.

I still stand by my (long running) prediction that we'll see the sequel in May 2013. :techman:

Why?

It will be fine.

I don't, considering everything they've been involved with.

even though they "green-lighted" it prior to the release of Star Trek 2009.
Nothing was "green lighted."

They should all drop EVERYTHING and film 3 more movies back to back and then release them every 2 years.

I think I will write a letter suggesting this.

Strangely I feel very calm about this...I have a theory...with the first 10 films, I was always waiting for them to get things "right" or make them better, now that ST09 was so successful and enjoyable, i feel comfortable in letting them do what they want, its just gravy to me. I will wait for whatever they've got.

I know what they were trying to say, but that's a misleading use of the term.

The Guardian was repeating a story that originated from "Variety" in which the "Supreme Court" was retained to begin script work for the sequel. A Green light for a film happens upon script & budget approval (among some other things) and basically means that they can move forward with making it. In other words, the studio has to say "We like the script and we approve the budget, so here's the green light to make it."

"One caveat, signing a deal to get a script is not the same thing as giving a film a green light."

The Green Lighting will likely happen in the next couple of months or so I imagine.

Okay. They've still had two plus years to complete the script. A script they knew they were writing before Star Trek 2009 came out.

Heck, the same story you linked above says the script would be completed by Christmas 2009. We're now in June of 2011 with a seventy page outline.

They admitted that the script still isn't finished in a story dated June 11th.

^^Well Bond 23 won't be out until next year, which will have been a 4 year gap between films, but people will still go and see it. True maybe not quite the same as a Sci-Fi film butt the gap is simillar.

Shit happens (or in their case, more time sensitive employment opportunities for them,.)

And any of this complaining, speculating, debating, the woulda-shoulda-coulda-beens is completely pointless and is not going to speed anything up. It's going to come out when it comes out, and J.J. just said he's not going to rush this thing out and compromise it over deadlines (which means they're probably ready for a release date change.) Good enough for me, good enough for you, good enough for all of us.

Good night.

Come on. It's one thing to be a month or two late with a deadline... but it's taken this gang twenty-six months to get eighty pages into this script. Twenty months longer than they originally envisioned.

At some point you may start to think that there is some division in the ranks as to what story the sequel is going to tell.

I'm actually more interested in the game coming in 2012 than the Star Trek sequel.

Or that JJ and Co are some of the busiest writers/producers in Hollywood right now, in great part on their success with ST09, since their earlier movies did not get the acclaim or award noms of ST09.

But their the one's that said they'd have a script done by Christmas 2009. Very unprofessional to tell someone that you'll have the work they're paying you for done by a certain date, then blow it off for other projects.
